Synopsis Construction Mathematics by : Surinder Virdi
Construction Mathematics is an introductory level mathematics text, written specifically for students of construction and related disciplines. Learn by tackling exercises based on real-life construction maths. Examples include: costing calculations, labour costs, cost of materials and setting out of building components. Suitable for beginners and easy to follow throughout. Learn the essential basic theory along with the practical necessities. The second edition of this popular textbook is fully updated to match new curricula, and expanded to include even more learning exercises. End of chapter exercises cover a range of theoretical as well as practical problems commonly found in construction practice, and three detailed assignments based on practical tasks give students the opportunity to apply all the knowledge they have gained. Construction Mathematics addresses all the mathematical requirements of Level 2 construction NVQs from City & Guilds/CITB and Edexcel courses, including the BTEC First Diploma in Construction. Additional coverage of the core unit Mathematics in Construction and the Built Environment from BTEC National Construction, Civil Engineering and Building Services courses makes this an essential revision aid for students who do not have Level 2 mathematics experience before commencing their BTEC National studies. This is also the ideal primer for any reader who wishes to refresh their mathematics knowledge before going into a construction HNC or BSc.

Synopsis The Construction of Mathematics by : Klaus Truemper
Is mathematics created or discovered? The answer has been debated for centuries. This book answers the question clearly and decisively by applying the concept of language games, invented by the philosopher Wittgenstein to solve difficult philosophical issues. Using the results of modern brain science, the book also explains how it is possible that eminent mathematicians and scientists offer diametrically opposed answers to the question of creation vs. discovery. Interested in the topic but intimidated by mathematics? Not to worry. If you are familiar with the elementary operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, you can follow the arguments of this book.

Synopsis Using Math in Construction by : Colin Wilkinson
Today's construction industry, consisting of a wide range of careers, continues to struggle finding skilled workers to meet demand. In order to take advantage of these jobs, a candidate will need a strong understanding of arithmetic, algebra, and geometry. This book presents readers with real-world examples of how math skills relevant to fifth and sixth grade Common Core Standards are used on the job in construction every day, engaging students both interested in construction and those seeking relevant applications of these skills outside of the classroom.

Synopsis Advanced Construction Mathematics by : Surinder Virdi
Advanced Construction Mathematics covers the range of topics that a student must learn in order to achieve success in Level 3 and 4 mathematics for the Pearson BTEC National and BTEC HNC/HND in Construction, Building Services, and Civil Engineering. Packed with easy to follow examples, its 18 chapters cover algebra (equations, transposition and evaluation of formulae), differentiation, integration, statistics and numerous other core concepts and their application in the construction/civil engineering field. The book explains technical processes before applying mathematical techniques to solve practical problems which gradually build in complexity. Each chapter contains self-test exercises and answers and numerous illustrations to simplify the essential maths required at Levels 3 and 4. The book is also a useful recap or primer for students on BSc or non-cognate MSc Construction and Civil Engineering degrees.

Synopsis Application of Mathematics and Optimization in Construction Project Management by : Hêriş Golpîra
This book provides a broad overview of project and project management principles, processes, and success/failure factors. It also provides a state of the art of applications of the project management concepts, especially in the field of construction projects, based on the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK). The slate of geographically and professionally diverse authors illustrates project management as a multidisciplinary undertaking that integrates renewable and non-renewable resources in a systematic process to achieve project goals. The book describes assessment based on technical and operational goals and meeting schedules and budgets.

Synopsis Geometric Constructions by : George E. Martin
Geometric constructions have been a popular part of mathematics throughout history. The first chapter here is informal and starts from scratch, introducing all the geometric constructions from high school that have been forgotten or were never learned. The second chapter formalises Plato's game, and examines problems from antiquity such as the impossibility of trisecting an arbitrary angle. After that, variations on Plato's theme are explored: using only a ruler, a compass, toothpicks, a ruler and dividers, a marked rule, or a tomahawk, ending in a chapter on geometric constructions by paperfolding. The author writes in a charming style and nicely intersperses history and philosophy within the mathematics, teaching a little geometry and a little algebra along the way. This is as much an algebra book as it is a geometry book, yet since all the algebra and geometry needed is developed within the text, very little mathematical background is required. This text has been class tested for several semesters with a master's level class for secondary teachers.

Synopsis Math for Carpentry and Construction by : Richard B. Miles
Math for Carpentry and Construction is designed specifically for carpentry and construction students, allowing them to learn and apply basic math skills in a very relatable context. Each unit begins with an explanation of the basic concept behind each math operation, followed by clear instructions for performing the operation, and a variety of carpentry- and construction-related practice problems to reinforce the concept. This format provides a practical approach to learn important math skills and troubleshooting skills that will be used in carpentry shops and construction sites. A new Appendix, Construction Diagrams and Terms, defines and illustrates key trade terms and components that students may have not yet been exposed to in their carpentry/construction program.

Synopsis Building Support for Scholarly Practices in Mathematics Methods by : Signe E. Kastberg
Building Support for Scholarly Practices in Mathematics Methods is the product of collaborations among over 40 mathematics teacher educators (MTEs) who teach mathematics methods courses for prospective PreK?12 teachers in many different institutional contexts and structures. Each chapter unpacks ways in which MTEs use theoretical perspectives to inform their construction of goals, activities designed to address those goals, facilitation of activities, and ways in which MTEs make sense of experiences prospective teachers have as a result. The book is organized in seven sections that highlight how the theoretical perspective of the instructor impacts scholarly inquiry and practice. The final section provides insight as we look backward to reflect, and forward with excitement, moving with the strength of the variation we found in our stories and the feeling of solidarity that results in our understandings of purposes for and insight into teaching mathematics methods. This book can serve as a resource for MTEs as they discuss and construct scholarly practices and as they undertake scholarly inquiry as a means to systematically examine their practice.
