Synopsis The Company of Cats by : Marian Babson
A millionaire’s cat may be the key to a murder mystery in this delightful novel from an Agatha Award–winning author. When Annabel Hinchby-Smythe accepts an offer to serve as interior decorator to computer mogul Arthur Arbuthnot, she can’t help noticing that no one in the house seems to genuinely like the tycoon—aside from his cat, Sally. After Arthur’s sudden death—and the revelation that Sally is named sole inheritor in his will—Annabel’s new task will be finding out the truth about her client’s demise, and keeping the furry heiress safe from harm. “Her portrayal of the kindhearted, martini-swigging Annabel is a winner.” —Booklist Praise for Marian Babson “Marian Babson’s name on a mystery is a guarantee of quality writing wrapped around an unusual crime.” —Houston Chronicle

Synopsis The Cats Be Unemployed by : Kristin D. Butler
The Cats Be Unemployed A Millennial’s Topsy-Turvy Chase for Gainful Employment; or, A Generation’s Catalog of Conundrums When we are young and un(der)employed, we may find ourselves in desperate or humorous situations trying to chase some cash. We become curious about ourselves and our society and question what it really means to be an “adult.” We begin to compare ourselves to others...or to cats: living back at home, sleeping all day, going crazy, not wearing pants, pawing at that mouse. We are always on the hunt. We are constantly put in boxes. We are frustrated by closed doors. The Cats Be Unemployed takes you through one Millennial’s topsy-turvy chase to find gainful employment after cat walking right into the Great Recession. Kristin’s twenties are spent precariously enduring unemployment five times within a six year span, while fighting through bait and switch scams, unreliable jobs and gig work, questionable policies, rocky relationships, and her own “quarter life crisis.” Through a collection of essays combining personal stories, extensive research, and humor, she examines the socioeconomic landscape this generation lives with, but has the potential to change. She provides insightful analysis on disconnects that surround education, health care, pay rates, company culture, and our perceptions versus realities of the working world. Join Kristin in an eye-opening discovery of the catalog of conundrums aspiring adults face after graduation. The Cats Be Unemployed reflects on and examines socioeconomic issues that aspiring adults encounter constantly: • Grievances and hilarities of being un(der)employed • Disconnects between education and the actualities of the workplace • Counterproductive company cultures • Scams that target the vulnerable • Company drug testing • Stagnating job growth, creation and pay rates • Effects on relationships when lost and broke • Health care options and dilemmas • Frustrations when working with recruiters • Kooky living situations • Coming of age with ever-changing technology and social media • The “Quarter Life Crisis”

Synopsis The Hidden Language of Cats by : Sarah Brown, PhD
Descended from shy, solitary North African wild cats, domestic cats set up homes with devoted owners all over the world by learning how to talk to us. This book translates—in case you missed anything. A renowned cat behavior scientist of over thirty years, Dr. Sarah Brown has been at the forefront of research in the field, discovering how cats use tail signals to interact with each other and their owners. Now, she reveals the previously unexplored secrets of cat communication in a book that is both scientifically grounded and utterly delightful. Each chapter dives into a different form of communication, including vocalizations, tail signals, scents, rubbing, and ear movements. The iconic meow, for example, is rarely used between adult cats—cleverly mimicking the cries of a human infant, the meow is a feline invention for conversing with people. Through observing the behavior of two cat colonies in rural England, readers will also have the opportunity to glimpse into the lives of some of the cats behind Dr. Brown's science. Can we understand what cats’ meows and other signals mean? How do cats actually perceive us? And how can we use this information to inform how we talk back to our feline friends? Referencing historical records, exploring modern scientific studies of cat-human communication, and including simple, elegant line drawings, The Hidden Language of Cats is perfect for any cat lover who wants to learn more about their companion.

Synopsis A Cat's Tale by : Baba the Cat
A “fun, fanciful, and even informative” history of felines as revealed by a very learned tabby with a knack for hunting down facts (People). Since the dawn of civilization, felines have prowled alongside mankind as they expanded their territory and spread the myth of human greatness. And today, cats are peddled on social media as silly creatures here to amuse humans with their antics. But this is an absurd, self-centered fantasy. The true history of felines is one of heroism, love, tragedy, sacrifice, and gravitas. Not entirely convinced? Well, get ready, because Baba the Cat is here to set the record straight. Spanning almost every continent and thousands—yes, thousands—of years, Baba’s complex story of feline survival presents readers with a diverse cast of cats long forgotten: from her prehistoric feline ancestors and the ancient Egyptian cat goddess Bastet to the daring mariners at the height of oceanic discovery, key intellectuals in the Enlightenment period, revered heroes from World Wars I and II, and the infamous American tabbies. Baba, a talented model in addition to a scholar, goes beyond surface-level scratches, pairing her freshly unearthed research with a series of stunning costume portraits to bring history to life. A paws-on journey through the feline hall of fame, with in-depth research and four-legged testaments that will make you rethink who defines history, A Cat’s Tale is a one-of-a-kind chronicle that introduces readers to the illustrious ancestors of their closest companions and shows, once and for all, that cats know exactly what they’re doing. “Almost certainly the most unique cat history book ever published.” —Smithsonian Magazine

Synopsis On Older Cats by : Judith Lindley
In the past 25 years, science has made great advancements in the field of Veterinary Medicine. Of these advancements, many benefit our feline community. Where once a cat was considered old at 6 years, with a life expectancy of 8 to 10 years, they are now able to live longer and healthier lives, many cats into their late teens. On Older Cats presents a view of the aging cat in a most unique way. Rather than being too technical, the information is given in layman language, easily understood by anyone. The book begins with the first changes you would notice, the outward appearances, then progresses to internal changes and behavioral changes. Each item discusses, from eyes and ears to respiratory system and even sleep behavior, is explained as normal functions followed by results of normal aging and expected problems. Chapter V, What You Can Do, covers everything from home care (diet and grooming to creature comforts), travel care and the most important health care for your older cat. There is also a section on alternative remedies, seldom found in other cat books. And, of course, a section on the emotional topics of euthanasia, pet loss and grieving. In a time where most shelters think of cats as old at four years, it's refreshing to find an author who feels that cats don't even reach their prime until after six years. The author has been privileged to observe many of her cats living into their late teens and early twenties. The author has taken scientific information and molded it with her hands-on experience to create On Older Cats, a book which would be a welcomed addition to any cat lovers bookshelf.
