Synopsis Handbook of the Thermodynamics of Organic Compounds by : Richard Montgomery Stephenson

This book brings together data from Czechoslovakia on vapor pressures, data from England on critical properties, and data from America on physical properties of organic and organometallic compounds to provide a basic reference book for engineers and scientists involved with research and design in the chemical and petroleum industries. We would like to acknowledge Jaroslav Dykyj, Milan Repas, and Josef Svo boda of Czechoslovakia for providing the material on Antoine constants and Douglas Ambrose of the University of London for providing the material on critical properties. Stanislaw Malanowski pointed out and made available the sources of data from Eastern Europe. Richard Stephenson translated and correlated the data in tabular form. We would like to thank Dr. Matej Andras of the Slovenska Literarna Agentura for granting permission to use the data from Czechoslovakia and Dr. Marjan Bace of Elsevier Science Publishing Co., Inc., who encouraged preparation of this manuscript and handled the publishing arrangements. Particular thanks go to Mary Stephenson for typing the entire camera-ready copy. Richard M. Stephenson University of Connecticut Storrs, Connecticut Stanislaw Malanowski Institute of Physical Chemistry Warsaw, Poland vii Introduction All scientific and engineering calculations are dependent on the availability of thermodynamic and physical property data for the materials or systems in question. This dependency is particularly true in engineering design, which relies almost exclusively on computers for accurate data to produce meaningful final designs.

Synopsis Environmental Organic Chemistry by : René P. Schwarzenbach

Environmental Organic Chemistry focuses on environmental factors that govern the processes that determine the fate of organic chemicals in natural and engineered systems. The information discovered is then applied to quantitatively assessing the environmental behaviour of organic chemicals. Now in its 2nd edition this book takes a more holistic view on physical-chemical properties of organic compounds. It includes new topics that address aspects of gas/solid partitioning, bioaccumulation, and transformations in the atmosphere. Structures chapters into basic and sophisticated sections Contains illustrative examples, problems and case studies Examines the fundamental aspects of organic, physical and inorganic chemistry - applied to environmentally relevant problems Addresses problems and case studies in one volume

In order to quantitatively predict the chemical reactions that hazardous materials may undergo in the environment, it is necessary to know the relative stabilities of the compounds and complexes that may be found under certain conditions. This type of calculations may be done using consistent chemical thermodynamic data, such as those contained in this book for inorganic compounds and complexes of selenium.* Fully detailed authoritative critical review of literature.* Integrated into a comprehensive and consistent database for waste management applications.* CD ROM version.

This volume is part of the series on "Chemical Thermodynamics", published under the aegis of the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency. It contains a critical review of the literature on thermodynamic data for inorganic compounds of zirconium. A review team, composed of five internationally recognized experts, has critically reviewed all the scientific literature containing chemical thermodynamic information for the above mentioned systems. The results of this critical review carried out following the Guidelines of the OECD NEA Thermochemical Database Project have been documented in the present volume, which contains tables of selected values for formation and reaction thermodynamical properties and an extensive bibliography.* Critical review of all literature on chemical thermodynamics for compounds and complexes of Zr.* Tables of recommended Selected Values for thermochemical properties* Documented review procedure* Exhaustive bibliography* Intended to meet requirements of radioactive waste management community* Valuable reference source for the physical, analytical and environmental chemist.

Synopsis Chemical Thermodynamics by : M L McGlashan

Specialist Periodical Reports provide systematic and detailed review coverage of progress in the major areas of chemical research. Written by experts in their specialist fields the series creates a unique service for the active research chemist, supplying regular critical in-depth accounts of progress in particular areas of chemistry. For over 80 years the Royal Society of Chemistry and its predecessor, the Chemical Society, have been publishing reports charting developments in chemistry, which originally took the form of Annual Reports. However, by 1967 the whole spectrum of chemistry could no longer be contained within one volume and the series Specialist Periodical Reports was born. The Annual Reports themselves still existed but were divided into two, and subsequently three, volumes covering Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry. For more general coverage of the highlights in chemistry they remain a 'must'. Since that time the SPR series has altered according to the fluctuating degree of activity in various fields of chemistry. Some titles have remained unchanged, while others have altered their emphasis along with their titles; some have been combined under a new name whereas others have had to be discontinued.
