Synopsis The Charlotte Medical Journal, Vol. 8 by : E. C. Register
Excerpt from The Charlotte Medical Journal, Vol. 8: A Monthly Journal of Medicine and Surgery; January-June, 1896 If we select for instance the germs, which give rise to tetanus and culture them, and then separate by a process of filtration the microbes themselves from the beeftea or the blood serum, which we employed for their culture, as the soil is used for the raising of plants from seeds, a great difference will be found between the effects of the bacteria themselves, when introduced into the animal economy, and the uid, in which they had multiplied. For provided this experiment is done under proper aseptic precautions, so as to insure freedom from the admixture of other germs, the injection of the micro-organisms themselves may scarcely give rise to any phenomena, but that of the uid will develop the symptoms of poisoning, and under certain conditions, which to -consider here would lead us too far astray, give rise to the disease of tetanus. Synopsis North Carolina Medical Journal, Vol. 8 by : Thomas F. Wood
Excerpt from North Carolina Medical Journal, Vol. 8: July, 1881 The doctor looked wise as doctors usually do under embarrassing circumstances, put his hand mechanically in his vest pocket and found to his horror, Tom's pills, and saw in the hurry and confusion of the chase he had sent him instead a box of percussion caps he had used in shooting quail the day before. Well, Tom, said the doctor, it is a new remedy that has certainly done you good and you have the honor of having taken the first dose in Virginia. Synopsis The Charlotte Medical Journal, Vol. 32 by : Edward C. Register
Excerpt from The Charlotte Medical Journal, Vol. 32: A Monthly Journal of Medicine and Surgery; January-June, 1908 This somewhat typical onset is so slightly characteristic to the patient and his family that malignancy is not at first thought of, therefore I wish to emphasize the import ance in just such cases, that the physician should think of malignant new growth of the stomach, and begin to observe the case from this point of View, till satisfied as to the proper diagnosis. Two symptoms of special importance de mands now some attention. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Synopsis The Charlotte Medical Journal, Vol. 66 by :
Excerpt from The Charlotte Medical Journal, Vol. 66: July, 1912 If we simply stop with the care Of the nu fortunate individuals who are sheltered in this institution, our efforts for good will fall far short of its possibilities. It is a greater work to have prevented the birth of one of these unfortunates than to have provided shelter for ten of them. The State Medical Society is the instrument through which this work must largely be accomplished. It is an organized body Of men, whose members come in touch with all the people of the State. Through them all scientific information of a medical nature can best reach the people. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Synopsis The Charlotte Medical Journal, Vol. 15 by : E. C. Register
Excerpt from The Charlotte Medical Journal, Vol. 15: A Monthly Journal of Medicine and Surgery; July, 1899 Antipyreti'cs are the remedies with which We reduce temperature and when we come to consider the fact that nearly all diseases with which we meet are accompanied with more or less fever, we at once see that these remedies have a wide field of usefulness in therapeutics. Notwithstanding the fact that some diseases may run a long and fatal course without' fever, we will always find the careful physician taking the tempera ture of his patients often, and when he finds any considerable rise above the nor mal, some antipyretic is usually given. This practice may be, and I believe is, the proper one to pursue in most cases, the mis take we usually make, I think, is in the selection of an antipyretic. Synopsis The Charlotte Medical Journal, Vol. 68 by :
Excerpt from The Charlotte Medical Journal, Vol. 68: July-December, 1913 I am sorry not to be able to state the exact growth of the society for the past 10 years. For the six years of which we have a correct record, the number of members has increased nearly being 769 in 1906 and 1100 this morning at o'clock with two counties, Davie and Richmond, still to be heard from. There are 1700 active practitioners in the State. This makes nearly 600 who do not belong to the society. Not a bad showing. The California Fig Syrup co., has special facilities for commanding the choicest qualities of Alexandria senna, and its chemists devote their entire attention to the manufacture of the one product.
