Synopsis Chameleon by : Samuel Fisher

John is infinite. He can become any book, any combination of words - every thought, act and expression that has ever been, or ever will be, written. Now 800 years old, John wants to tell his story.Looking back over his life, from its beginnings with a medieval anchoress to his current lodgings beside the deathbed of a Cold War spy, John pieces together his tale: the love that held him together and, in particular, the reasons for a murder that took place in Moscow fifty years earlier, which set in train a shattering series of events.Samuel Fisher's debut, The Chameleon is a love story about books like no other, weaving texts and lives in a family tale that leads the reader on an extraordinary historical journey, a journey of words as much as of places, and a gripping romance.

Synopsis Dreams of the Chameleon by : Philip Golabuk

Dreams of the Chameleon, inspired by Ferlinghetti's Routines, is a structurally unusual hybrid of fiction and fantasy offering a theatrical exploration of self-consciousness that gradually insinuates the reader as a character. While the narrative both presents and masks itself as a random collection of sudden fiction pieces, the reader gradually finds themes weaving among the stories in a web of cross-references, the context for which is foreshadowed in the Prologue, developed in the Entr'acte, and fulfilled in the Epilogue. These three main sections of the work are written in direct address to the readerâunlike the stories, which are rendered in a terse, dream-journal voice. Some of the recurring theme/dream symbols are: chameleons, green-and-red shifts, pantyhose (representing sexuality and so, creativity), and things being saved (in various senses of the word). The stories in the last half of the book (between the Entr'acte and the Epilogue) resolve the conflicts set up in the first half as the characters reappear in each other's "dreams." At the end, the reader finds himself sitting in the audience watching a magic show in the theater of consciousnessâone that catches consciousness in the recursive act of producing the very reality within which alone it can discover itself.

Synopsis The Book of Chameleons by : Jose Eduardo Agualusa

Félix Ventura trades in an unusual commodity; he is a dealer in memories, clandestinely selling new pasts to people whose futures are secure and who lack only a good lineage to complete their lives. In this completely original murder mystery, where people are not who they seem and the briefest of connections leads to the forging of entirely new histories, a bookish albino, a beautiful woman, a mysterious foreigner, and a witty talking lizard come together to discover the truth of their lives. Set in Angola, Agualusa's tale darts from tormented past to dream-filled present with a lightness that belies the savage history of a country in which many have something to forget -- and to hide. A brilliant American debut by one of the most lauded writers in the Portuguese-speaking world, this is a beautifully written and always surprising tale of race, truth, and the transformative power of creativity.
