Synopsis The Birds of Celebes and the Neighbouring Islands, Vol. 2 by : A. B. Meyer
Excerpt from The Birds of Celebes and the Neighbouring Islands, Vol. 2: With 28 Coloured Plates Female. Not known to differ from the male. Less grey on the head? Young. Younger birds seem to have less of a grey tinge on the head. Remarks. The above-described male agrees with seven other specimens in the Sarasin Coll. And Dresden Museum from the hill - country of the Minahassa, but the olive tint of the head is duskier and greyer. These differences are probably due to age in part, but very likely in part also to locality. A specimen in the Sarasin Collection from the Lake of Matauna, discovered by the travellers in South-east Central Celebes, does not seem to differ from birds from the North Peninsula. Wing 84 mm. Synopsis Pigeons and Doves by : David Gibbs
This volume is dedicated to the field identification of pigeons and doves, and it incorporates much recent information on the family. Pigeons and doves are a large family of birds occurring throughout the world. Many species are specialist frugivores, while others feed on seeds. Most are arboral and the tropical species in particular are often brightly coloured. The family includes gregarious migratory species, as well as shy, ground-dwelling forms such as the exotic crowned pigeons of New Guinea.
