Synopsis The Birds' Christmas Carol by : Kate Douglas Wiggin
Excerpt from The Birds' Christmas Carol: Dramatic Version In the present arrangement the birth of Carol is depicted in a sort of fairy prologue, in which the welcome gift of the Christmas baby to the Bird household is shown in a series of pictures. As to the death of the Christmas child twelve years later, it is touched upon very lightly in the original story and retired still farther into the back ground in this dramatic version. An imaginary Doctor Bob has been introduced, one of a long line of physicians who have tried to deliver the child from the burden of her weakness and her crutch; and the last scene of the play suggests to the audience none but healing thoughts. The Angel of the Pro logue comes softly to Carol in her happy sleep, lifts the crutch and vanishes with a smile. The curtain goes down on a peaceful picture the merry chatter of the Ruggles children on their homeward way, mingling with the Christmas music that drifts into the big house from the church next door. The Birds' Christmas Carol is a well-loved children's Christian classic first published in 1886. It is the heart warming tale of Carol Bird who was born on Christmas Day. She was an unusually loving and generous child, often thinking of ways to bring joy to others. At ten, although very ill she brings Christmas cheer to those around her by inviting a neighboring family for Christmas day. The themes and values within this book still resonate as strongly today as they did in yesteryear. The Classics Book is All Time

Synopsis The Birds' Christmas Carol by : Kate Wiggin
This is an early book (1886) by Wiggin, author of Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm. It tells of a lovely, fair haired girl born on Christmas day to the Bird family and thus named Carol. The story carries a tinge of sadness for a Christmas story, but it is a wonderful example of the true meaning of Christmas. In charming Kate Wiggins style, she also brings humor and sometimes hilarity to the telling of the tale. We are delighted to publish this classic book as part of our extensive Classic Library collection. Many of the books in our collection have been out of print for decades, and therefore have not been accessible to the general public.
