Ames Family History

William Ames immigrated in 1635 to Braintree, Massachusetts. Descendants lived in most of the United States. This book also includes Buchanan, Chambers, Ewing, Fisher, Fleury, Walker and other related families.

John Ames was born 1540 in Bruton, Somersetshire, England, and died at the age of 43 in the year 1583 in Bruton. His grandson William Ames (1605-1654) crossed the Atlantic and settled in Norfolk, Massachusetts. Williams 3rd great-grandson Barzilla Ames (1765-1849) settled in Greenfield, Michigan. 12 Generations listed! A great reference for the Ames family historian!

William Ames was baptized 6 October 1605 in Bruton, Somerset, England. His parents were John Ames and Christian Browne. He emigrated in about 1635. He married Hannah in about 1639. They had six children. He died in Braintree, Massachusetts in 1653. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maine, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Missouri.

Eva Jane and Eve Jean Sweet were born in Nebraska in 1933. They were twins and married twins Herbert and Delbert Chase. They each had one child and the two families have lived together since their double wedding in 1954. Information on their ancestral lines back to colonial America is given in this volume as is information on their descendants.
