Synopsis Text Databases: One Database Model and Several Retrive Al Languages Paper by : Doedens

Manipulation of text by means of the computer is well-established. Everybody has a word processor on his or her desk, and electronic mail, desk top publishing, text interchange languages, hypertext and multimedia are technologies many will be aware of. However, the full potential of the computer for the management and use of textual information has not been tapped yet. Far from it. For this a more principled approach is necessary, which will create a framework on which existing technologies, and technologies-yet-to-come can build and in which they can be integrated. This book can be seen as one step on this road. It employs the experience gained in working with a rich electronic linguistic corpus, the ECA database. A basic text database model is put forward and several text database retrieval languages are defined and analysed. A clear direction for further research is given. Therefore, the book is of relevance to researchers and developers in the field of corpus linguistics and in the more general field of electronic text.

Synopsis Database and Expert Systems Applications by : A Min Tjoa

Use and development of database and expert systems can be found in all fields of computer science. The aim of this book is to present a large spectrum of already implemented or just being developed database and expert systems. Contributions cover new requirements, concepts for implementations (e.g. languages, models, storage structures), management of meta data, system architectures, and experiences gained by using traditional databases in as many areas of applications as possibble (at least in the fields listed). The aim of the book is to inspire a fruitful dialogue between developement in practice, users of database and expert systems, and scientists working in the field.

Synopsis Future Data and Security Engineering by : Tran Khanh Dang

This book constitutes the proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Future Data and Security Engineering, FDSE 2020, which was supposed to be held in Quy Nhon, Vietnam, in November 2020, but the conference was held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 24 full papers (of 53 accepted full papers) presented together with 2 invited keynotes were carefully reviewed and selected from 161 submissions. The other 29 accepted full and 8 short papers are included in CCIS 1306. The selected papers are organized into the following topical headings: security issues in big data; big data analytics and distributed systems; advances in big data query processing and optimization; blockchain and applications; industry 4.0 and smart city: data analytics and security; advanced studies in machine learning for security; and emerging data management systems and applications.

Synopsis SIGIR ’94 by : W. Bruce Croft

Information retrieval (IR) is becoming an increasingly important area as scientific, business and government organisations take up the notion of "information superhighways" and make available their full text databases for searching. Containing a selection of 35 papers taken from the 17th Annual SIGIR Conference held in Dublin, Ireland in July 1994, the book addresses basic research and provides an evaluation of information retrieval techniques in applications. Topics covered include text categorisation, indexing, user modelling, IR theory and logic, natural language processing, statistical and probabilistic models of information retrieval systems, routing, passage retrieval, and implementation issues.

Synopsis Automated DNA Sequencing and Analysis by : Mark D. Adams

A timely book for DNA researchers, Automated DNA Sequencing and Analysis reviews and assesses the state of the art of automated DNA sequence analysis-from the construction of clone libraries to the developmentof laboratory and community databases. It presents the methodologies and strategies of automated DNA sequence analysis in a way that allows them to be compared and contrasted. By taking a broad view of the process of automated sequence analysis, the present volume bridges the gap between the protocols supplied with instrument and reaction kits and the finalized data presented in the research literature. It will be an invaluable aid to both small laboratories that are interested in taking maximum advantageof automated sequence resources and to groups pursuing large-scale cDNA and genomic sequencing projects. - The field of automation in DAN sequencing and analysis is rapidly moving, this book fulfils those needs, reviews the history of the art and provides pointers to future development.
