This is an open access book. The 5th Sriwijaya University Learning and Education International Conference (5th SULE-IC 2022) was held on October 5, 2022 in Palembang, South Sumatera, Indonesia. Palembang is a historic city located on the island of Sumatera. It was the capital of the Empire of Sriwijaya. During the glory of the Empire, it was one of the major learning centers in Asia. To continue the legacy of the Empire’s spirit of learning, the conference will, once more, be the gathering for academicians and professionals from education and related fields all over the world, to share ideas and innovations. The main goal of the 2022 SULE-IC is to provide and opportunity for academicians and professional from various education related field from all over the world to come together and learn from each other. Furthermore, the additional goal is to provide a place for academicians and professionals with disciplinary interests related to education to meet and interact with members inside and outside their own particular disciplines.

Sule - The Proverb Detective: The Case of the Tied-up Lion is the first book in the Sule's Seek & Find Story Series where a 10-year-old African proverb detective named Sule helps kids solve their problems using proverbs. With his first case, Sule must stop Fara from cancelling the class party by teaching her the meaning of the proverb: When spider webs unite, they can tie up a lion.

Jokes have always been part of African culture, but never have they been so blended with the strains and gains of the contemporary African world as today. Joke-Performance in Africa describes and analyses the diverse aesthetics, forms, and media of jokes and their performance and shows how African jokes embody the anxieties of the time and space in which they are enacted. The book considers the pervasive phenomenon of jokes and their performance across Africa in such forms as local jests, street jokes, cartoons, mchongoano, ewhe-eje, stand-up comedy, internet sex jokes, and ‘comicast’ transmitted via modern technology media such as the TV, CDs, DVDs, the internet platforms of YouTube, Facebook, and other social arenas, as well as live performances. Countries represented are Egypt, Kenya, Malawi, Morocco, Nigeria, and Zambia, covering the North, West, East and Southern Africa. The book explores the description of the joke form from various perspectives, ranging from critical discourse analysis, interviews, humour theories, psychoanalysis, the postcolony and technauriture, to the interactive dramaturgy of joke-performances, irrespective of media and modes of performance. Containing insightful contributions from leading African scholars, the book acquaints readers with detailed descriptions of the diverse aesthetics of contemporary African jokes, thereby contributing to the current understanding of joke-performance in Africa. It will appeal to students and scholars of African studies, popular culture, theatre, performance studies and literary studies.

In Political Party Financing and Electoral Politics in Nigeria’s Fourth Republic, Babayo Sule provides a detailed analysis of the process of political party financing in Nigeria from 1999 to the present. Sule links the party financing process with the electoral process and explores issues of democratic accountability, transparency, and corruption in Nigeria under democratic rule. Issues of excessive spending, violation of legal procedures for party financing and monitoring of parties’ activities, particularly, finances are explored. The book presents an analytical discourse on elections and processes that influence an election in Nigeria’s Fourth Republic in which party financing and money politics are instrumental. This book observes how political corruption gains root in the process of party financing and builds a theory linking party financing, electoral politics, and democratic accountability. This book provides practical policy implications for strengthening Nigeria’s electoral process and transparency in its democracy.

The West Africa brutal civil war of the nineties and early year 2000 largely fuelled by greed and extreme poverty drew The United Nations Security Council to put a peace enforcement unit together to quell the wave of senseless killings, maiming, rape and other horrible war crime never imagined, being perpetrated by the various warring factions against innocent civilians, as a result a young Nigerian soldier left the love of his life and all he had labored for all his life to fight for peace in a strange land where death, maiming and rape were the order of every passing day.
