A follow-up of the 1988 Workshop on New Trends in Strong Coupling Gauge Theories, the 1990 Workshop, entitled Strong Coupling Gauge Theories and Beyond, is devoted to discussions on dynamical symmetry breaking and phase structure in various types of strong coupling gauge theories and other theories, their formal aspects and the related models of electroweak symmetry breaking.

Readership: Graduate students and researchers in high energy physics, particularly those interested in dynamical symmetry breaking and effective field theories.

This is the proceedings of the third Nagoya workshop on Strong Coupling Gauge Theories (SCGT), after SCGT 88 and SCGT 90. As a tradition of the Nagoya SCGT workshops, the focus is on dynamical symmetry breaking with particular emphasis on the nontrivial fixed points and/or large anomalous dimension, which was actually the basis of walking technicolor, strong ETC technicolor and top quark condensate, etc. Special attention is also paid to the fixed point structure in supersymmetric gauge theories, which has recently been highlighted through duality arguments.

Addressing the need for an up-to-date reference on silicon devices and heterostructures, Beyond the Desert 99 reviews the technology used to grow and characterize Goup IV alloy films. It covers the theory, device design, and simulation of heterojunction transistors, emphasizing their relevance in developing the technologies involving strained layers; device design and simulation of conventional silicon bipolar transistors and SiGe HBTs at room and low temperatures; and device design and simulation for MOSFETs, including SiGe and strained-Si channel MOSFETs. The book concludes with simulations and examples of different applications. It provides a unified reference for scientists and engineers investigating the use of SiGe and strained silicon in a new generation of high-speed circuit applications.

This book contains selected papers of Prof Nambu who is one of the most original and outstanding particle theorists of our time. This volume consists of about 40 papers which made fundamental contributions to our understanding of particle physics during the last few decades.The unpublished lecture note on string theory (1969) and the first paper on spontaneous symmetry breaking (1961) are retyped and included. The book also contains a memoir of Prof Nambu on his research career.
