Synopsis Stochastic Models in Reliability, Network Security and System Safety by : Quan-Lin Li

This book is dedicated to Jinhua Cao on the occasion of his 80th birthday. Jinhua Cao is one of the most famous reliability theorists. His main contributions include: published over 100 influential scientific papers; published an interesting reliability book in Chinese in 1986, which has greatly influenced the reliability of education, academic research and engineering applications in China; initiated and organized Reliability Professional Society of China (the first part of Operations Research Society of China) since 1981. The high admiration that Professor Cao enjoys in the reliability community all over the world was witnessed by the enthusiastic response of each contributor in this book. The contributors are leading researchers with diverse research perspectives. The research areas of the book iclude a broad range of topics related to reliability models, queueing theory, manufacturing systems, supply chain finance, risk management, Markov decision processes, blockchain and so forth. The book consists of a brief Preface describing the main achievements of Professor Cao; followed by congratulations from Professors Way Kuo and Wei Wayne Li, and by Operations Research Society of China, and Reliability Professional Society of China; and further followed by 25 articles roughly grouped together. Most of the articles are written in a style understandable to a wide audience. This book is useful to anyone interested in recent developments in reliability, network security, system safety, and their stochastic modeling and analysis.

Synopsis The Handbook of Reliability, Maintenance, and System Safety through Mathematical Modeling by : Amit Kumar

The Handbook of Reliability, Maintenance, and System Safety through Mathematical Modeling discusses the many factors affect reliability and performance, including engineering design, materials, manufacturing, operations, maintenance, and many more. Reliability is one of the fundamental criteria in engineering systems design, with maintenance serving as a way to support reliability throughout a system's life. Addressing these issues requires information, modeling, analysis and testing. Different techniques are proposed and implemented to help readers analyze various behavior measures (in terms of the functioning and performance) of systems. - Enables mathematicians to convert any process or system into a model that can be analyzed through a specific technique - Examines reliability and mathematical modeling in a variety of disciplines, unlike competitors which typically examine only one - Includes a table of contents with simple to complex examples, starting with basic models and then refining modeling approaches step-by-step

Synopsis Handbook of Advanced Performability Engineering by : Krishna B. Misra

This book considers all aspects of performability engineering, providing a holistic view of the activities associated with a product throughout its entire life cycle of the product, as well as the cost of minimizing the environmental impact at each stage, while maximizing the performance. Building on the editor's previous Handbook of Performability Engineering, it explains how performability engineering provides us with a framework to consider both dependability and sustainability in the optimal design of products, systems and services, and explores the role of performability in energy and waste minimization, raw material selection, increased production volume, and many other areas of engineering and production. The book discusses a range of new ideas, concepts, disciplines, and applications in performability, including smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0; cyber-physical systems and artificial intelligence; digital transformation of railways; and asset management. Given its broad scope, it will appeal to researchers, academics, industrial practitioners and postgraduate students involved in manufacturing, engineering, and system and product development.

Synopsis Computer Safety, Reliability, and Security by : Maritta Heisel

Theimportanceofsafetyandsecurityisgrowingsteadily.Safetyisaqualityc- racteristic that traditionally has been considered to be important in embedded systems, and security is usually an essential property in business applications. There is certainly a tendency to use software-based solutions in safety-critical applications domains, which increases the importance of safety engineering te- niques. These include modelling and analysis techniques as well as appropriate processes and tools. And it is surely correct that the amount of con?dential data that require protection from unauthorized access is growing. Therefore, security is very important. On the one hand, the traditional motivations for addressing safety and security still exist, and their relevance has improved. On the other hand, safety and security requirements occur increasingly in the same system. At present, many software-based systems interact with technical equipment and they communicate, e.g., with users and other systems. Future systems will more and more interact with many other entities (technical systems, people, the en- ronment). In this situation, security problems may cause safety-related failures. It is thus necessary to address safety and security. It is furthermore required to take into account the interactions between these two properties.
