According to Vedic tradition, these "Hymns of Brahma" were recited or sung countless millennia ago by the first embodied being, Lord Brahma, just before he created the universe. The book consists of a brief description of Brahma's enlightenment by Lord Sri Krsna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, followed by Brahma's extraordinarily beautiful prayers elucidating the content of his revelation. Although the whole of the Brahma-samhita has not been located, the fifth chapter stands alone as a short but complete work. Srila Jiva Gosvami has written a commentary "Dig-darsani-tika" which is included.

What we call love in the material world is all too temporary, but in the kingdom of God the profound loving exchanges Lord Krishna enjoys with His dearest devotees are eternal. Bhakti-yoga teaches us how to enter into that realm of eternal love.

The quality of our consciousness can go up or down based on how we see the world and act in it. When we act like the eternal spiritual beings that we are – small parts of a supreme whole – makes us happy. But if we focus our attempts at happiness on the temporary body and mind – on matter – and make those our life's priority, our consciousness will shrink and we’ll be miserable. Spiritual elevation – raising our consciousness to higher levels – happens quickly when we revive our God consciousness. In this compact book, Srila Prabhupada recommends seeing the world as it is – a temporary place full of anxiety – and then taking the road to higher consciousness by rediscovering our relationship with the Supreme Person, Krishna. The Vedānta-sūtra, which consists of aphorisms revealing the method of understanding Vedic knowledge, is the concise form of all Vedic knowledge. The aphorisms or sūtras of Vedānta-sūtra were compiled by Śrīla Vyāsadeva, a powerful incarnation of Śrī Nārāyaṇa. All the authorized and established sampradāyas have their own commentary on Vedānta-sūtra. However, no one in Gauḍīya Sampradāya has written a commentary on Vedānta-sūtra, until sometimes back, in Jaipur, the Gauḍīyas were challenged that "The Gauḍīya Sampradāya has no commentary on the Vedānta-sūtra." So Baladeva Vidyābhūṣana, with the order of Govindaji at Jaipur, he wrote the commentary on Brahma-sūtra, which is called Govinda-bhāṣya. From then, it became the commentary on Brahma-sūtra for the Gauḍīya Sampradāya. The philosophy of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, which amalgamated the views of all the previous Acaryas in His thesis of Acintya-bhedabheda Tattva, is explicitly explained by Sri Baladeva Vidyabhusana in his Govinda Bhasya of the Vedanta-sutra.
