Synopsis Double Photoionisation Spectra of Molecules by : John H. D. Eland
This is the first ever compendium of double photoionisation spectra, covering some 70 of the most important small and medium sized molecules and thus providing an essential starting point for studies of the consequences of ionisation by high energy photons in both terrestrial and astrophysical environments. It also provides a complete non-mathematical description of all the phenomena and pathways involved in molecular double photoionisation. Most spectra are presented with identification of the electronic states and leading orbital configurations. The technique of magnetic bottle time-of-flight electron spectroscopy, used for all the spectra, is fully explained and compared with other techniques. For each molecule, the book gives full references to relevant work by complementary techniques and to theoretical calculations. Written in a clear non-mathematical style, this book is accessible to students as well as more experienced researchers. The authors have designed the layout for easy retrieval of any desired spectrum through the systematic organisation and ordering of the compounds and thorough indexing. As well as being a compendium of spectra, the book is a textbook covering all the known phenomenological aspects of molecular double photoionisation. The important phenomena are first mentioned in the introductory chapters, and are discussed in more detail in connection with the groups of molecules and individual cases where they are most relevant. The most useful spectra will be available in digital form for users.

Synopsis New Frontiers in Photochromism by : Masahiro Irie
Photochromism is the reversible phototransformation of a chemical species between two forms having different absorption spectra. During the phototransformation not only the absorption spectra but also various physicochemical properties change, such as the refractive index, dielectric constant, oxidation/reduction potential, and geometrical structure. The property changes can be applied to photonic equipment such as erasable memory media, photo-optical switch components, and display devices. This book compiles the accomplishments of the research project titled “New Frontiers in Photochromism” supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan. The project focused not only on the above-mentioned classical subjects in photochromism, such as color changes, optical memory, and optical switches, but also on fundamental physicochemical studies and unprecedented application fields that have not yet been explored in photochromism. The latter topics include light-driven mechanical motion, photocontrol of surface wettability, metal deposition on solid materials, photocontrol of chiral properties, ultrafast decoloration dyes, and femtosecond laser experiments, among others.

Synopsis Photodissociation Dynamics by : Reinhard Schinke
Photodissociation induced by the absorption of single photons permits the detailed study of molecular dynamics such as the breaking of bonds, internal energy transfer and radiationless transitions. The availability of powerful lasers operating over a wide frequency range has stimulated rapid development of new experimental techniques which make it possible to analyse photodissociation processes in unprecedented detail. This text elucidates the achievements in calculating photodissociation cross-sections and fragment state distributions from first principles, starting from multi-dimensional potential energy surfaces and the Schrödinger equation of nuclear motion. Following an extended introduction in which the various types of observables are outlined, the book summarises the basic theoretical tools, namely the time-independent and the time-dependent quantum mechanical approaches as well as the classical picture of photodissociation. The discussions of absorption spectra, diffuse vibrational structures, the vibrational and rotational state distributions of the photofragments form the core of the book. More specific topics such as the dissociation of vibrationally excited molecules, emission during dissociation, or nonadiabatic effects are also discussed. It will be of interest to graduate students and senior scientists working in molecular physics, spectroscopy, molecular collisions and molecular kinetics.

Synopsis Chemical Rocket Propulsion by : Luigi T. De Luca
Developed and expanded from the work presented at the New Energetic Materials and Propulsion Techniques for Space Exploration workshop in June 2014, this book contains new scientific results, up-to-date reviews, and inspiring perspectives in a number of areas related to the energetic aspects of chemical rocket propulsion. This collection covers the entire life of energetic materials from their conceptual formulation to practical manufacturing; it includes coverage of theoretical and experimental ballistics, performance properties, as well as laboratory-scale and full system-scale, handling, hazards, environment, ageing, and disposal. Chemical Rocket Propulsion is a unique work, where a selection of accomplished experts from the pioneering era of space propulsion and current technologists from the most advanced international laboratories discuss the future of chemical rocket propulsion for access to, and exploration of, space. It will be of interest to both postgraduate and final-year undergraduate students in aerospace engineering, and practicing aeronautical engineers and designers, especially those with an interest in propulsion, as well as researchers in energetic materials.
