Synopsis Some Folks Feel the Rain Others Just Get Wet by : Rev. James W. Moore
This is another way of saying that some people smell the roses, while others just complain about the thorns. In his warm, conversational style, popular author James W. Moore explores the reasons why some people are able to see our time on earth as a gracious gift from God rather than as an agonizing endurance test; and, simply put, why some people have the ability to celebrate life with an abundance of gratitude. Each chapter in this book includes a reference to an important passage of Scripture, powerful stories and examples from the lives of others, and practical suggestions for better daily living. A study guide is also included. Chapter Titles: Can You Feel the Strength to Keep on Believing When It's Hard? Can You Feel the Zest of Life? Can You Feel the Power of Commitment? Can You Feel the Joy of Freedom? Can You Feel the Power of Love? Can You Feel the Strength to Persevere? Can You Feel the Attitude of Gratitude? Can You Feel the Call to Discipleship? Can You Feel the Quality of Childlikeness? Can You Feel the Firm Foundation? Can You Feel the Good Side of Worry? Can You Feel the New Way of Looking at Things? Can You Feel the Miracle of Encouragement? Can You Feel the Sense of What's Valuable? Can You Feel the Beauty of Inclusiveness? Can You Feel God Hugging You to Life?

Synopsis Some White Folks by : Jennifer Chudy
A pioneering exploration of the unexamined roots and effect of racial sympathy within American politics. There is racial inequality in America, and some people are distressed over it while others are not. This is a book about white people who feel that distress. For decades, political scientists have studied the effects of white racial prejudice, but Jennifer Chudy shows that white racial sympathy for Black Americans’ suffering is also a potent force in modern American politics. Grounded in the history of Black-white relations in America, racial sympathy is unique. It is not equivalent to a low level of racial prejudice or sympathy for other marginalized groups. Some White Folks reveals how racial sympathy shapes a significant number of white Americans’ opinions on policy areas ranging from the social welfare state to the criminal justice system. Under certain circumstances, it can also spur action—although effects on political behavior are weaker and less consistent, for reasons Chudy examines. Drawing on diverse quantitative and qualitative evidence and integrating insights from multiple disciplines, Chudy explores the origins, importance, and complexity of racial sympathy, as well as the practical implications for political and movement leaders. A companion to the rich literature on prejudice, Some White Folks demonstrates the multifaceted role of race in American politics and public opinion.

Synopsis Wilbur and Melvia Lee Thornton Son Wilbur Junior by : WILBUR THORNTIZE THORNTON
For years I have been speaking my mind about the good and the bad from the North to East. From the character of friendliness and nothingness, from the stash and the best of nature. This book contains most of the events in my life. The quotes and poems that I dedicate to my family and all of my loved ones. I always wanted to share these things with different kinds of people. The righteous or the bad. Come and travel the wilderness with me.

Synopsis For White Folks Who Teach in the Hood... and the Rest of Y'all Too by : Christopher Emdin
A New York Times Best Seller "Essential reading for all adults who work with black and brown young people...Filled with exceptional intellectual sophistication and necessary wisdom for the future of education."—Imani Perry, National Book Award Winner author of South To America An award-winning educator offers a much-needed antidote to traditional top-down pedagogy and promises to radically reframe the landscape of urban education for the better Drawing on his own experience of feeling undervalued and invisible in classrooms as a young man of color, Dr. Christopher Emdin has merged his experiences with more than a decade of teaching and researching in urban America. He takes to task the perception of urban youth of color as unteachable, and he challenges educators to embrace and respect each student’s culture and to reimagine the classroom as a site where roles are reversed and students become the experts in their own learning. Putting forth his theory of Reality Pedagogy, Emdin provides practical tools to unleash the brilliance and eagerness of youth and educators alike—both of whom have been typecast and stymied by outdated modes of thinking about urban education. With this fresh and engaging new pedagogical vision, Emdin demonstrates the importance of creating a family structure and building communities within the classroom, using culturally relevant strategies like hip-hop music and call-and-response, and connecting the experiences of urban youth to indigenous populations globally. Merging real stories with theory, research, and practice, Emdin demonstrates how by implementing the “Seven Cs” of reality pedagogy in their own classrooms, urban youth of color benefit from truly transformative education.
