Synopsis On Spiritual Unity by : Alekseĭ Stepanovich Khomi︠a︡kov
This volume brings together the religious and philosophical writings of the founders of Russian religious philosophy, Aleksei Khomiakov and Ivan Kireevsky. Both began their intellectual careers in the literary world of the 1820s. The texts collected here make the philosophical concepts of Sobornost (community, universality, wholeness, ecumenicity) and integral knowledge, available to western readers. Based on the primacy of the heart, the spiritual wholeness of the human being and the cognitive will, integral knowing moves beyond rationality to union with the object of knowledge in knowing. This book provides an introduction to Russian religious philosophy, and a profound, meditative text for anyone concerned with human and spiritual unity. Also included are two responses to Slavophile ideas by the prominent Russian philosophers Pavel Florensky and Nikolai Berdiaev.

Synopsis The Fellowship of St Alban and St Sergius by : Dimitrios Filippos Salapatas
For centuries the Orthodox and the Anglican churches have been in dialogue; however, this association matured during the twentieth century, also known as the Age of Ecumenism, where both became members of the World Council of Churches and part of the Official Dialogue. Nevertheless, it is the work of individuals and ecumenical bodies who undertake an important role in educating people in both the West and the East. An example of such a society is the Fellowship of St Alban and St Sergius, an ecumenical body that promotes relations between various Christian denominations. This book analyses the history, theology and practice of the Fellowship. Issues such as Church relations, Orthodoxy, Anglicanism, iconography, the role of women in the Church, intercommunion and the role of Moscow within the Orthodox world are examined. As such, it will appeal to academics, theologians, hierarchs, churches and anyone interested in modern and ecumenical Theology.

Synopsis Sobornost by : Catherine Doherty
In Sobornost, the Russian word for "unity," you'll learn how your heart can be softened and opened to the transforming reality of the Holy Trinity dwelling within you. Catherine guides us along the pathway that takes us home, to God's house, into the grace intimacy of eternal belonging; to a place that is hard to get to, yet one that lives within and beyond the ever-present confusion, fear and loneliness of our daily existence. She takes us by the hand, becomes our companion on the ultimate journey--into an experience of the mysterious depths of intimacy in, through, and with God. Here we rediscover the final unity in the wellspring of compassion that flows from divine Persons, one in love, a union of Lover, Beloved, and Love --Father, Son and Spirit. The unselfish life is reclaimed, one that discovers abundant life with God and thus within the soul, within nature, within interpersonal relations, within the cosmos. "Sparks' fly from the pages, igniting a response in the heart of one open to the charism of such a spiritual person as the author. An inspirational spiritual work much needed today." Father George Maloney, "It is a very satisfying experience to read any of Catherine's books, and this is her best." - Our Sunday Visitor

Synopsis Common Places by : Svetlana Boym
Boym provides a view of Russia that is historically informed, replete with unexpected detail, and stamped with authority. Alternating analysis with personal accounts of Russian life, she conveys the foreignness of Russia and examines its peculiar conceptions of private life and common good, of Culture and Trash, of sincerity and banality.

Synopsis the significance of eschatology in the thoughts of nicolas berdyaev by : Carnegie Samuel Calian
There is no question that Nicolas Berdyaev has distinguished himself in this twentieth century as the Christian philosopher and prophet of freedom and creativity, par excellence. The purpose of this present study is to bring attention to an untreated aspect of Berdyaev's Weltanschauung which underlies the whole of his thinking. This untreated aspect is the eschatological emphasis found in the writings of Nicolas Berdyaev. This study will lead to the conclusion that Berdyaev was not only the philosopher of creativity and freedom par excellence, but he was also an eschatological philosopher of equal excellence. - Introduction.

Synopsis A History of Russian Philosophy 1830–1930 by : G. M. Hamburg
The great age of Russian philosophy spans the century between 1830 and 1930 - from the famous Slavophile-Westernizer controversy of the 1830s and 1840s, through the 'Silver Age' of Russian culture at the beginning of the twentieth century, to the formation of a Russian 'philosophical emigration' in the wake of the Russian Revolution. This volume is a major history and interpretation of Russian philosophy in this period. Eighteen chapters (plus a substantial introduction and afterword) discuss Russian philosophy's main figures, schools and controversies, while simultaneously pursuing a common central theme: the development of a distinctive Russian tradition of philosophical humanism focused on the defence of human dignity. As this volume shows, the century-long debate over the meaning and grounds of human dignity, freedom and the just society involved thinkers of all backgrounds and positions, transcending easy classification as 'religious' or 'secular'. The debate still resonates strongly today.
