Synopsis Simpler, clearer, more stable by : A. Hudson

The accountability framework for any service is the mechanism for determining priorities, allocating resources, monitoring progress, ensuring delivery and learning lessons. The details of reporting mechanisms and governance structures may be dry and dusty, but the implications are not: a poor accountability framework increases the risk of poor quality services for its users, and poor value for money for funders. Getting accountability right is challenging at any time. It involves combining specific processes and structures with the right culture. The current context in England is particularly challenging in a number of ways: approaches to planning and organisation are changing, and new models of care emerging, with a lot of focus on increasingly integrated working. This is happening at a time when both finances and service delivery are under pressure in the NHS and local government alike. In this paper, I identify the principles that should underpin a good accountability framework. ...

Synopsis Toward a New Council of Florence by : Nicolaus of Cusa

This is a book of English translations of the writings of one of the most important geniuses in history--Cardinal Nicolaus of Cusa (1401-1464). He created ideas which had never been conceived before and which changed history for the better--up through our time and far, far into the future. His thinking processes are sometimes summed up in his concept of the “coincidence of opposites.” Instead of starting his thought process from accumulated sense perceptions and deducing law from observed appearances, Cusa starts with the hypothesis that there must be an original potential from which all multiplicity derives. By starting from the top, or “the Origin,” Cusa was able to solve previously insoluble problems. For example, his idea that the “right to govern comes from the consent of the governed” was not only the basis for solving clashes within the Catholic Church, and even the attempt to reunify all of the various Christian churches at the Council of Florence, but also lay at the heart of the experiments in government set up in the New England colonies of North America and the later creation of the United States Constitution. Besides the title work “On the Peace of Faith” which resolves the conflicts among the religions, 17 other papers are translated into English--14 for the first time. The ongoing renaissance in the study of Cusa worldwide is the basis for resolving the conflicts which still plague the world.

Synopsis Marketing and Advertising Law in a Process of Harmonisation by : Ulf Bernitz

The law on marketing and advertising has undergone profound changes based on the EU directives on unfair commercial practices and misleading and comparative advertising. The legislation partially requires full harmonisation and contains a comprehensive blacklist of prohibited practices. However, in other areas, only minimum harmonisation is required. A comprehensive case law from the CJEU has emerged, but still many issues remain open, unclear and debated. The EU Commission has an active interest in the field and has published numerous reports on the question. In addition it has developed revised, comprehensive guidelines on marketing business to consumer (B2C), which are fully discussed here. Further Commission initiatives in the area on business to business (B2B) marketing are also in the making, underlining the importance of this new collection.

Synopsis Profound & Simple by : William R. Melich

This is a book that spans several topics that are assigned as a chapter. These topics include my philosophy on existence, human existence, and the ultimate realm of reality, as well as on energy and matter, dimension, motion, time and space, the natural world, education, politics, religion, athletics, economics, ethics, perception and actuality, and so on. Many of the ideas, principles, and theories are not radically new, yet I hope that my presentation of them can provide some perspectives that you may have not considered, which in turn can help you broaden your awareness and inspire a more dynamic and enthusiastic pursuit on the deeper meanings of both experience and imagination. This book, as such you could say, is a basic scientific but mostly philosophic summation of what I have learned through my current lifetime of study and contemplation.

Synopsis Historical and Philosophical Foundations of Psychology by : Martin Farrell

This textbook connects the big ideas and key thinkers of psychology and philosophy in a clear and cohesive theoretical narrative. Students are led to understand the relations between different schools of thought, and to connect the various thinkers, theories and facts in psychology's history. Focusing on the major ideas that have reoccurred throughout history, such as the mind-body problem and the role of the mind in our experience, Martin Farrell shows how specific thinkers have explored the same ideas, but in different ways, leading to distinct schools of thought. The coherent narrative enables students to see the bigger picture, through which the historical and conceptual roots of psychology can be easily understood.
