Synopsis Search for R-parity Violating Decays of a Top Squark in Proton{u2013}proton Collisions at by :

The results of a search for a supersymmetric partner of the top quark (top squark), pair-produced in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} =$ 8 TeV, are presented. The search, which focuses on R-parity violating, chargino-mediated decays of the top squark, is performed in final states with low missing transverse momentum, two oppositely charged electrons or muons, and at least five jets. The analysis uses a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb${̂-1}$ collected with the CMS detector at the LHC in 2012. The data are found to be in agreement with the standard model expectation, and upper limits are placed on the top squark pair production cross section at 95% confidence level. Assuming a 100% branching fraction for the top squark decay chain, $ \mathrm{ \tilde{t} \to t \tilde{\chi}{̂\pm}_1,\, \tilde{\chi}{̂\pm}_1 \to \ell\̂pm+jj } $, top squark masses less than 890 (1000) GeV for the electron (muon) channel are excluded for the first time in models with a single nonzero R-parity violating coupling $\lambda{̂\prime}_{ijk}$ $(i,j,k \leq 2)$, where $i,j,k$ correspond to the three generations.

Synopsis A Search for B-L R-parity-violating Scalar Top Decays in [squareroot] S by : Brett Jackson

This thesis presents a search for direct scalar top pair production where the scalar tops decay via an R-parity-violating coupling to a final state with two leptons and two identified b-jets. The analysis uses 20.3 fb-1 of s = 8 TeV proton-proton collision data collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. No significant excess is observed over the Standard Model background. Assuming a supersymmetric minimal B-L extension to the Standard Model, limits on the scalar top mass are placed between 500 GeV and 1 TeV with a branching fraction above 20% for the scalar top to decay to an electron or a muon and a b-quark.

Synopsis Searches for R-parity-violating Supersymmetry in Pp Collisions at Sqrt(s) by :

Results are presented from searches for R-parity-violating supersymmetry in events produced in pp collisions at sqrt(s)=8 TeV at the LHC. Final states with 0, 1, 2, or multiple leptons are considered independently. The analysis is performed on data collected by the CMS experiment corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.5 inverse femtobarns. No excesses of events above the standard model expectations are observed, and 95% confidence level limits are set on supersymmetric particle masses and production cross sections. The results are interpreted in models featuring R-parity-violating decays of the lightest supersymmetric particle, which in the studied scenarios can be either the gluino, a bottom squark, or a neutralino. In a gluino pair production model with baryon number violation, gluinos with a mass less than 0.98 and 1.03 TeV are excluded, by analyses in a fully hadronic and one-lepton final state, respectively. An analysis in a dilepton final state is used to exclude bottom squarks with masses less than 307 GeV in a model considering bottom squark pair production. Multilepton final states are considered in the context of either strong or electroweak production of superpartners, and are used to set limits on the masses of the lightest supersymmetric particles. These limits range from 300 to 900 GeV in models with leptonic and up to approximately 700 GeV in models with semileptonic R-parity-violating couplings.

Synopsis Search for R-parity Violating Supersymmetry with Displaced Vertices in Proton-proton Collisions at Sqrt(s) by :

Results are reported from a search for R-parity violating supersymmetry in proton-proton collision events collected by the CMS experiment at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt(s)=8 TeV. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 17.6 inverse femtobarns. This search assumes a minimal flavor violating model in which the lightest supersymmetric particle is a long-lived neutralino or gluino, leading to a signal with jets emanating from displaced vertices. In a sample of events with two displaced vertices, no excess yield above the expectation from standard model processes is observed, and limits are placed on the pair production cross section as a function of mass and lifetime of the neutralino or gluino. At 95% confidence level, the analysis excludes cross sections above approximately 1 fb for neutralinos or gluinos with mass between 400 and 1500 GeV and mean proper decay length between 1 and 30 mm. Assuming gluino pair production cross sections, gluino masses are excluded below 1 and 1.3 TeV for mean proper decay lengths of 300 micrometers and 1 mm, respectively, and below 1.4 TeV for the range 2-30 mm. The results are also applicable to other models in which long-lived particles decay into multijet final states.

Synopsis Search for Pair Production of Third-generation Scalar Leptoquarks and Top Squarks in Proton-proton Collisions at [arrow]" by :

A search for pair production of third-generation scalar leptoquarks and supersymmetric top quark partners, top squarks, in final states involving tau leptons and bottom quarks is presented. The search uses events from a data sample of proton-proton collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb-1, collected with the CMS detector at the LHC with [arrow]" = 8 TeV. The number of observed events is found to be in agreement with the expected standard model background. Third-generation scalar leptoquarks with masses below 740 GeV are excluded at 95% confidence level, assuming a 100% branching fraction for the leptoquark decay to a tau lepton and a bottom quark. In addition, this mass limit applies directly to top squarks decaying via an R-parity violating coupling [lambda]'333. The search also considers a similar signature from top squarks undergoing a chargino-mediated decay involving the R-parity violating coupling [lambda]'3jk. Each top squark decays to a tau lepton, a bottom quark, and two light quarks. Top squarks in this model with masses below 580 GeV are excluded at 95% confidence level. The constraint on the leptoquark mass is the most stringent to date, and this is the first search for top squarks decaying via [lambda]'3jk.

Synopsis Search for Scalar Top Quark Pair-Production in Scenario with Violated R-parity in Ppbar Collisions at Sqrt(s) by : Takashi Ogawa

A search for the pair production of supersymmetric partner of the top quark in scenario with R-parity violation is presented. The quantum number called R-parity distinguishes particles in standard model from supersymmetric particles. A scalar top quark (stop) is assumed to decay only via R{sub p}-violating supersymmetric coupling into tau lepton and b-quark. To collect events with multiple taus, a new special tau trigger (the lepton plus track trigger) is installed in Run II experiment of the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF). The goal of the lepton plus track trigger is to collect generic dilepton ({ell}{ell}, {ell}{tau}, {tau}{tau}) events with lower p{sub T} threshold (8 GeV/c) and without prescale even at high luminosity. The Z {yields} {tau}{tau} event, where one {tau}-lepton decays leptonically and the other hadronically, is a good benchmark to calibrate the lepton plus track trigger and {tau} identification. The data sample of 72 pb{sup -1}, collected using the electron plus track trigger, contains clear a {tau} signal from Z {yields} {tau}{tau} events. The data used in stop search correspond to 200 pb{sup -1}. The lower stop mass bound of 134 GeV/c{sup 2} at a 95% confidence level is obtained. This limit is also directly applicable to the case of the third generation scalar leptoquark (LQ{sub 3}) assuming a 100% branching for the LQ{sub 3} {yields} {tau}b decay mode.

Synopsis Search for Top Squark Pair Production in Compressed-mass-spectrum Scenarios in Proton-proton Collisions at Sqrt(s) by :

An inclusive search is performed for supersymmetry in final states containing jets and an apparent imbalance in transverse momentum, ptvecmiss, due to the production of unobserved weakly interacting particles in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. The data, recorded with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC, correspond to an integrated luminosity of 18.5 inverse femtobarns. The dimensionless kinematic variable alphaT is used to discriminate between events with genuine ptvecmiss associated with unobserved particles and spurious values of ptvecmiss arising from jet energy mismeasurements. No excess of event yields above the expected standard model backgrounds is observed. The results are interpreted in terms of constraints on the parameter space of several simplified models of supersymmetry that assume the pair production of top squarks. The search provides sensitivity to a broad range of top squark decay modes, including the two-body decay top squark to c chi0, where c is a charm quark and chi0 is the lightest neutralino, as well as the four-body decay top squark to b f bar-f' chi0, where b is a bottom quark and f and bar-f' are fermions produced in the decay of an intermediate off-shell W boson. These modes dominate in scenarios in which the top squark and lightest neutralino are nearly degenerate in mass. For these modes, top squarks with masses as large as 260 and 230 GeV are excluded, respectively, for the two- and four-body decays.
