Synopsis Scenarios II by : Werner Herzog
The second in a series: the master filmmaker’s prose scenarios for four of his notable films On the first day of editing Fata Morgana, Werner Herzog recalls, his editor said: “With this kind of material we have to pretend to invent cinema.” And this, Herzog says, is what he tries to do every day. In this second volume of his scenarios, the peerless filmmaker’s genius for invention is on clear display. Written in Herzog’s signature fashion—more prose poem than screenplay, transcribing the vision unfolding before him as if in a dream—the four scenarios here (three never before translated into English) reveal an iconoclastic craftsman at the height of his powers. Along with his template for the film poem Fata Morgana (1971), this volume includes the scenarios for Herzog’s first two feature films, Signs of Life (1968) and Even Dwarfs Started Small (1970), along with the hypnotic Heart of Glass (1976). In a brief introduction, Herzog describes the circumstances surrounding each scenario, inviting readers into the mysterious process whereby one man’s vision becomes every viewer’s waking dream.

Synopsis Scenarios of Power by : Richard S. Wortman
This new and abridged edition of Scenarios of Power is a concise version of Richard Wortman's award-winning study of Russian monarchy from the seventeenth century until 1917. The author breaks new ground by showing how imperial ceremony and imagery were not simply displays of the majesty of the sovereign and his entourage, but also instruments central to the exercise of absolute power in a multinational empire. In developing this interpretation, Wortman presents vivid descriptions of coronations, funerals, parades, trips through the realm, and historical celebrations and reveals how these ceremonies were constructed or reconstructed to fit the political and cultural narratives in the lives and reigns of successive tsars. He describes the upbringing of the heirs as well as their roles in these narratives and relates their experiences to the persistence of absolute monarchy in Russia long after its demise in Europe.

Synopsis Finite Form Representations for Meijer G and Fox H Functions by : Carlos A. Coelho
This book depicts a wide range of situations in which there exist finite form representations for the Meijer G and the Fox H functions. Accordingly, it will be of interest to researchers and graduate students who, when implementing likelihood ratio tests in multivariate analysis, would like to know if there exists an explicit manageable finite form for the distribution of the test statistics. In these cases, both the exact quantiles and the exact p-values of the likelihood ratio tests can be computed quickly and efficiently. The test statistics in question range from common ones, such as those used to test e.g. the equality of means or the independence of blocks of variables in real or complex normally distributed random vectors; to far more elaborate tests on the structure of covariance matrices and equality of mean vectors. The book also provides computational modules in Mathematica®, MAXIMA and R, which allow readers to easily implement, plot and compute the distributions of any of these statistics, or any other statistics that fit into the general paradigm described here.

Synopsis Flexible Distribution Networks by : Peng Li
Flexible Distribution Networks facilitates the enhanced flexibility, efficiency and reliability of distribution networks under complex operating environments delivered by high DG penetration. Considering the high share of DG and flexibility improvement brought by SOP-type power electronic devices, the work aims to solve the issues of optimal operation of flexible distribution networks. Technical solutions for flexible operation problems of FDN are discussed in depth, including efficient analytical methods with high penetration of DG, SOP-based optimal operation methods with uncertainty, and high-performance convex optimization algorithms. Readers will develop sound knowledge and gain insights into the optimal operation of FDN with high penetration of DG. - Provides efficient operation analysis methods for FDN with high penetration of distributed generators - Proposes measurement-based network estimation methods to improve the observability of network states - Develops SOP-based optimal operation methods to facilitate the flexible operation of FDN under complex and uncertain environments - Expounds local control frameworks to realize the rapid and effective implementation of flexible operation strategies - Reviews high-performance convex optimization methods to realize the efficient solving of optimal operation problems in FDN
