Synopsis 100 Things to Do in Birmingham Before You Die by : Verna Gates
It was called the Magic City – a bright, shiny new boomtown following the misery of the Civil War. Birmingham was teething on steel as a brash Wild West town with gambling, shootouts and famous madams. When the steel died down, banking and medical industries settled it into a sophisticated city with a famed culinary scene, a broad entertainment district, and striking natural beauty. The colorful past remains in a juke joint, quirky museums and a mining trail turning into a greenway. The city changed the country with its notorious struggle, preserved in churches, parks and the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute. The city is experiencing a new boom in the restoration of its historic downtown, craft beer scene, up and coming new chefs, and an explosion of music venues. The Magic is back. 100 Things to Do in Birmingham Before You Die is your guide to discovering that magic!

Synopsis 1001 Life Changing Quotes 4 TEENS by : Laura Lyseight
Jesus says profoundly, “The words that I speak, they are Spirit and they are life.” Words live and have incredible power, so watch what words you speak. “Colours fade, temples crumble, empires fall, but wise words endure” (Edwards Thorndike). The power found in words cannot be understated. They can be explosive dynamite destroying or they can be cautious uplifting words. “Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless” (Mother Teresa). What lasting impressions are you making with the words you are speaking? The spoken word has life or death in it. Words can motivate you to do more or do the exact opposite. They can equally build you up or pull you down. Throughout history, all successful people have been known to tap into the world of wise words. They have continually stayed motivated and challenged by insightful words from others and this book has the compilation of wise, life-transforming quotes to help you as a teen chart your successful path in life. As you read through this book, you will experience renewed energy, you will feel an explosive excitement, and your passion to do more will mystify you. That is exactly the effect of inspirational words. This collection of quotes has been carefully sourced for teens worldwide. Every teen, especially those who desire to be successful, must have a copy. “An investment in knowledge pays the best interest” (Benjamin Franklin). “Teens are not monsters. They are just people trying to learn how to make it among the adults in the world, who are probably not so sure themselves” (Virginia Satir).

Synopsis The Young Crusaders by : V. P. Franklin
An authoritative history of the overlooked youth activists that spearheaded the largest protests of the Civil Rights Movement and set the blueprint for future generations of activists to follow. Some of the most iconic images of the Civil Rights Movement are those of young people engaged in social activism, such as children and teenagers in 1963 being attacked by police in Birmingham with dogs and water hoses. But their contributions have not been well documented or prioritized. The Young Crusaders is the first book dedicated to telling the story of the hundreds of thousands of children and teenagers who engaged in sit-ins, school strikes, boycotts, marches, and demonstrations in which Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and other national civil rights leaders played little or no part. It was these young activists who joined in the largest civil rights demonstration in US history: the system-wide school boycott in New York City on February 3, 1964, where over 360,000 elementary and secondary school students went on strike and thousands attended freedom schools. Later that month, tens of thousands of children and teenagers participated in the “Freedom Day” boycotts in Boston and Chicago, also demanding “quality integrated education.” Distinguished historian V. P. Franklin illustrates how their ingenuity made these and numerous other campaigns across the country successful in bringing about the end to legalized racial discrimination. It was these unheralded young people who set the blueprint for today’s youth activists and their campaigns to address poverty, joblessness, educational inequality, and racialized violence and discrimination. Understanding the role of children and teenagers transforms how we understand the Civil Rights Movement and the broader part young people have played in shepherding social and educational progress, and it serves as a model for the youth-led “reparatory justice” campaigns seen today mounted by Black Lives Matter, March for Our Lives, and the Sunrise Movement. Highlighting the voices of the young people themselves, Franklin offers a redefining narrative, complemented by arresting archival images. The Young Crusaders reveals a radical history that both challenges and expands our understanding of the Civil Rights Movement.

Synopsis Living Well by : Allan Moseley
Wise proverbs stick with us and help us navigate life. Our financial decisions might be guided by "a penny saved is a penny earned," or we might remember not to be lazy from "the early bird catches the worm." God has given us a book filled with such memorable wisdom--the Old Testament book of Proverbs. In Living Well, you'll look at a different topic in each chapter and learn how Proverbs can guide us to live wiser, more God-honoring lives. Whether in our finances or our relationships, our approach to work or play, following the way of wisdom is often countercultural, but always best. Living Well gives us the blueprint for such a life--starting with God's own wisdom from the book of Proverbs.
