Synopsis Chemistry, Biochemistry and Pharmacology of Hydrogen Sulfide by : Philip K. Moore
This book puts hydrogen sulfide in context with other gaseous mediators such as nitric oxide and carbon monoxide, reviews the available mechanisms for its biosynthesis and describes its physiological and pathophysiological roles in a wide variety of disease states. Hydrogen sulfide has recently been discovered to be a naturally occurring gaseous mediator in the body. Over a relatively short period of time this evanescent gas has been revealed to play key roles in a range of physiological processes including control of blood vessel caliber and hence blood pressure and in the regulation of nerve function both in the brain and the periphery. Disorders concerning the biosynthesis or activity of hydrogen sulfide may also predispose the body to disease states such as inflammation, cardiovascular and neurological disorders. Interest in this novel gas has been high in recent years and many research groups worldwide have described its individual biological effects. Moreover, medicinal chemists are beginning to synthesize novel organic molecules that release this gas at defined rates with a view to exploiting these new compounds for therapeutic benefit.

Synopsis Concepts in Biochemical Pharmacology by : Bernard B. Brodie
This volume of the Handbook of Experimental Pharmacology (Concepts in Biochemical Pharmacology) will show that pharma cology has finally arrived as a true discipline in its own right, and is no longer the handmaiden of organic chemistry and physiology. Instead it is an amalgam of all the biological sciences including biochemistry, biophysical chemistry, physiology, pathology and clinical medicine. In the volumes that make up Concepts in Bio chemical Pharmacology we hope to convince Medical Schools what should now be obvious, that pharmacology is no longer that dull topic bridging the basic sciences with medicine, but is probably the most important subject in the medical curriculum. We are grateful for the advice of Dr. Byron Clark, Director of the Pharmacology-Toxicology Program at the National Institutes of Health whose support made possible much of the work described in this volume. Synopsis Principles of Pharmacology by : David E. Golan
Now in its third edition, Principles of Pharmacology presents content in a conceptual framework that maximizes understanding and retention and minimizes rote memorization. It takes students "beyond the disease" and deep into physiologic, biochemical, and pathophysiologic systems where drugs activate or inhibit these systems by interacting with molecular and cellular targets. This unique approach ensures understanding of the mechanisms of drug actions on the body, and ultimately, in treating the human patient. Ideal for introductory pharmacology courses that emphasize critical thinking, molecular understanding, systems-based integration, and clinical preparation, the text: Features chapter-opening clinical cases and questions to establish a context for the discussion and the answers that follow Presents signature drug summary tables, updated and organized by mechanism of action, with information on clinical applications, adverse effects, contraindications, and therapeutic considerations Incorporates NEW full-color illustrations throughout, suiting the needs of visual learners and more effectively presenting concepts covered in the narrative Integrates timely content, including recently approved drugs as well as current research on drug mechanisms of action Delivers course and review material appropriate for students through a uniquely collaborative authorship consisting of medical students, residents, and faculty
