Whilst the UK economy must decarbonise if the country is to meet its obligations to tackle climate change, and use of fossil fuels must diminish, the UK will still need to use the oil and gas resources remaining in the UK continental shelf.

Also known as the Brown Book this volume provides detail on oil and gas production. It sets out the historical context for events that occurred in 1994, the importance of the oil and gas sector in the UK economy, details of exploration, appraisal and development activity, the levels of oil and gas reserves, and information about the UK licensing regime. In addition it includes detailed information on individual oil and gas fields. Some of the key achievements in 1994 are highlighted. They include: all-time record production of oil and gas taken together; record gas production for the fifth year in a row; the highest oil production for nearly ten years; and a record number of new development wells drilled on the UK continental shelf.
