Excerpt from Report of the Executive Officers of the Baltimore and Ohio Rail Road Company, on the Subject of Retrenchment During the interval, the directors appointed by the city held one or more meetings. They did not, however, confer with the president or other executive officers of the company, and there fore, received no explanation from either, of the amount of the company's expenditures, or of the real demands of the service. The directors, it is presumed, may have ascertained from the records of the office, the number of individuals employed in the various departments and the amount of compensation allowed them under the authority of the board.
