Synopsis Vajrasattva Meditation by : Yeshe Phuntsok

Walk step by step through the stages of this tantric ritual of purification with inspired commentary and forty full-color illustrations. The force of our past actions makes it hard to attain our goals, including success in meditation. And so Buddhism has developed methods for purifying our past, clearing the obstacles to success and fulfillment. One of the most popular methods for karmic housekeeping, one common to all schools of Tibetan Buddhism, is the preparatory practice of visualizing the buddha Vajrasattva and reciting his hundred-syllable mantra. It is considered an essential foundation for the success of spiritual endeavor. The practice of Vajrasattva is often the first experience practitioners have of trying to perform tantric ritual. Combining prayers, visualizations, mantra recitations, and multiple styles of meditation, it can be hard for those who did not grow up in the tradition to know how to proceed. This friendly volume by a young Tibetan lama with many followers in China lays out the practice step by step accompanied by sixty color illustrations.

Synopsis The Meditation-Recitation of Black Manjushri eBook by : Lama Zopa Rinpoche

Composed by Lama Zopa Rinpoche, translated by Fabrizio Champa Pelgye. The benefits of this text, according to Lama Zopa Rinpoche: “This meditation-recitation averts all spells, cursing spirits, black magic, and curses of the ancient writings. It averts all epidemics and infectious diseases, spirits and interferers, evil demons, and bad astrological charts. It averts [the effects] of the ritual master of the sangha assembly performing wrathful rituals and initiations without first subduing the ground. It averts all types of uncleanliness and pollution from corpses, defilements, masonry work, and the demolishing of old houses. In short, all evils, negative beings, bad business transactions, and so forth—whatever one may think of—is all averted by this meditation-recitation. It also cures internal illnesses, tumors, phlegm diseases, and so forth.” 2019 edition. This practice requires the student to have permission/empowerment received from a qualified master in order to engage in the self-generation of the deity. However, it is permitted to do this practice without such an empowerment as long as you do not generate yourself as the deity. Instead, you should generate the deity at the crown of your head or in front of you instead of self-generation.

Synopsis The Copper-Colored Mountain by : Jigme Lingpa

A translation of Jigme Lingpa’s eighteenth-century Tibetan Buddhist aspiration prayer for taking rebirth in the pure land Copper-Colored Mountain, accompanied by a commentary and analysis by the translators. While Pure Land Buddhism is generally thought of as an East Asian tradition with an Indian origin, the Copper-Colored Mountain is in fact the first and only pure land with scriptural origins entirely in the Tibetan tradition. It represents Tibetan culture’s fascinating intersection of traditional history with liturgical tantric practice. The Copper-Colored Mountain is understood to be the current abode of Padmasambhava, the Indian master credited with first bringing Buddhism to Tibet and founding Tibet’s first monastery, Samye. After leaving Tibet, it is said that Padmasambhava set up residence on Cāmara, one of the two islands on either side of the continent of Jambudvipa, our world according to Buddhist cosmology. After taming the resident ogres of Cāmara and converting them to Buddhism, he then built an octagonal palace where Buddhist practitioners may be transported in visions and dreams or reborn through aspiration prayers. This work is a translation and analysis of one such aspiration prayer. This prayer was composed by Jigme Lingpa, a treasure revealer of the Nyingma tradition in the eighteenth century and remains the most important prayer to this pure land in Tibetan Buddhism. Merging academic precision in representing the Tibetan texts and devotion to the principles of tantric Buddhism, translators Georgios T. Halkias and Christina Partsalaki enable a wider appreciation of the history and impact of this prayer in Tibetan Buddhist literature while elucidating its meaning for Buddhist practitioners.

Synopsis CULTIVATING A DAILY MEDITATION by : His Holiness the XIVth Dalai Lama

During April 1985 and then again in October 1986, His Holiness the Dalai Lama delivered a series a discourses on Buddhist view, meditation and action. The discourses and ensuing discussions were recorded at the time, and later prepared into an edited text of the encounter; the result of which is this book. In his discourses His Holiness touched upon all the essential points of the Buddhadharma, and provides a clear and simple method to cultivate a daily practise of meditation. He also goes into depth on how we should proceed in the effort to generate both the heart of compassion and the expansive view of emptiness, the Great Void, in our daily life. In addition, the question and answer sessions that follow each talk makes both inspirational and informative reading, which often leads to issues that arise in the course of a layperson's practise. In a sense His Holiness' discourses are principally a commentary on how one should proceed in order to cultivate a daily tantric meditational practise. The visualization used as the basis of the contemplation is that of Buddha and the four great Bodhisattvas: Avalokiteshvara, Manjushri, Vajrapani, and the female bodhisattva Arya Tara, and explains the symbolic significance of these figures. The picture that emerges from the totality of His Holiness' exposition is that Buddhism, in spite of its being labelled as religion, is mainly a way of life programmed to ensure that we bring some happiness, peace, meaning and purpose into lives, and that we learn to live in harmony with the environment.
