Synopsis Reality Bytes by : Bart Lootsma

Reality Bytes is a collection of essays by Bart Lootsma, written in the years from 1998 to 2009. "Byte" is a unit of digital information used in information technology and most commonly consists of eight bits. Reality Bytes is also the title of an essay by Bart Lootsma, in which he investigates the relationship between society and architects and town planners. Bart Lootsma, Professor of Architecture as well as architectural historian, critic and curator, is one of the most multi-faceted figures amongst contemporary architectural theorists. He has produced numerous publications, including "Superdutch", an appraisal of contemporary architecture in the Netherlands published in 2000. Synopsis Making Virtual Reality a Reality by : Alison Valk

Walks readers through the key components of developing library-led research and programming that leverages emerging technologies with the goal of engaging students and faculty. As educational curricula and research evolve to include advanced technologies, libraries must offer programming with these emerging technologies in mind, including the use of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). In this timely guide, Valk, Mi, and Schick present readers with tools for assessing their level of organizational readiness to begin such programs and, more importantly, how to sustain them with limited budgets, expertise, and resources. Building on their own experiences, the authors teach readers how to develop technology-rich classes, assess student projects, and overcome technical hurdles. They spotlight this kind of programming as integral to building strategic partnerships in an educational environment. Readers will learn how to adapt and design programs or initiatives in which the necessary technologies are rapidly changing, not only in higher education institutions, but also in schools. Worksheets and resources assist readers in reflecting on their own work and developing educational programming to suit their organizational needs.

Synopsis Family Fables And Hidden Heresies by : Vrinda Nabar

The death of Vrinda Nabar's maternal grandfather in World War I has a complex and abiding effect on his spirited widow and two young children. Over forty years later in 1961, some of the trauma following his death resurfaces during her mother's unexpected breakdown as uncomfortable question marks hover over issues like marriage, motherhood, and a woman's right to a life of her own. Are such issues dated, or do they still impact women's lives? Vrinda Nabar travels back in time to deconstruct the lives of her mother and grandmothers, and using experience to question notions of the self and identity, the nature of relationships, the undercurrents and the inner conflicts that these women battled with and resolved, not always satisfactorily. Drawing on history, myth and gender, she unravels the many fault lines women have to negotiate, often at great cost, in their search for a middle ground between individuality and conformity
