Synopsis Reading Error by : Nerys Williams

This work considers the development of the lyric form in recent American poetry of the past three decades. By concentrating on the writing of Charles Bernstein, Michael Palmer and Lyn Hejinian, the author considers the attempts of contemporary poetry to problematise the identification of the lyric as a static model of subjectivity.

Synopsis Understanding Statistical Error by : Marek Gierlinski

This accessible introductory textbook provides a straightforward, practical explanation of how statistical analysis and error measurements should be applied in biological research. Understanding Statistical Error - A Primer for Biologists: Introduces the essential topic of error analysis to biologists Contains mathematics at a level that all biologists can grasp Presents the formulas required to calculate each confidence interval for use in practice Is based on a successful series of lectures from the author’s established course Assuming no prior knowledge of statistics, this book covers the central topics needed for efficient data analysis, ranging from probability distributions, statistical estimators, confidence intervals, error propagation and uncertainties in linear regression, to advice on how to use error bars in graphs properly. Using simple mathematics, all these topics are carefully explained and illustrated with figures and worked examples. The emphasis throughout is on visual representation and on helping the reader to approach the analysis of experimental data with confidence. This useful guide explains how to evaluate uncertainties of key parameters, such as the mean, median, proportion and correlation coefficient. Crucially, the reader will also learn why confidence intervals are important and how they compare against other measures of uncertainty. Understanding Statistical Error - A Primer for Biologists can be used both by students and researchers to deepen their knowledge and find practical formulae to carry out error analysis calculations. It is a valuable guide for students, experimental biologists and professional researchers in biology, biostatistics, computational biology, cell and molecular biology, ecology, biological chemistry, drug discovery, biophysics, as well as wider subjects within life sciences and any field where error analysis is required.

Synopsis Diagnosis and Correction of Reading Problems, Second Edition by : Darrell Morris

This widely adopted text and teacher resource provides a comprehensive approach to assessing and remediating reading difficulties in grades K-6. Darrell Morris presents rich case studies of beginning and older readers struggling with different types of reading problems. He shows how to administer a thorough diagnostic battery and provide instruction tailored to each student's needs. In addition to one-to-one tutoring strategies, small-group and whole-class applications are discussed. Reproducible tools, book lists, and other user-friendly materials can be photocopied from the book or downloaded and printed in a convenient 8 1/2" x 11" size. New to This Edition *Detailed explanations of how to adapt the techniques for classroom use. *The latest research findings pertaining to reading diagnosis. *Updated and expanded book lists.*Chapter on historical and theoretical foundations. See also the Morris Informal Reading Inventory: Preprimer through Grade 8, a complementary assessment tool that yields systematic data on K-8 students' reading abilities.

Synopsis Adjustment Computations by : Charles D. Ghilani

The definitive guide to bringing accuracy to measurement, updated and supplemented Adjustment Computations is the classic textbook for spatial information analysis and adjustment computations, providing clear, easy-to-understand instruction backed by real-world practicality. From the basic terms and fundamentals of errors to specific adjustment computations and spatial information analysis, this book covers the methodologies and tools that bring accuracy to surveying, GNSS, GIS, and other spatial technologies. Broad in scope yet rich in detail, the discussion avoids overly-complex theory in favor of practical techniques for students and professionals. This new sixth edition has been updated to align with the latest developments in this rapidly expanding field, and includes new video lessons and updated problems, including worked problems in STATS, MATRIX, ADJUST, and MathCAD. All measurement produces some amount of error; whether from human mistakes, instrumentation inaccuracy, or environmental features, these errors must be accounted and adjusted for when accuracy is critical. This book describes how errors are identified, analyzed, measured, and corrected, with a focus on least squares adjustment—the most rigorous methodology available. Apply industry-standard methodologies to error analysis and adjustment Translate your skills to the real-world with instruction focused on the practical Master the fundamentals as well as specific computations and analysis Strengthen your understanding of critical topics on the Fundamentals in Surveying Licensing Exam As spatial technologies expand in both use and capability, so does our need for professionals who understand how to check and adjust for errors in spatial data. Conceptual knowledge is one thing, but practical skills are what counts when accuracy is at stake; Adjustment Computations provides the real-world training you need to identify, analyze, and correct for potentially crucial errors.

Synopsis Research in Computational Molecular Biology by : Bonnie Berger

This volume contains the papers presented at RECOMB 2010: the 14th Annual International Conference on Research in Computational Molecular Biology held in Lisbon, Portugal, during April 25–28, 2010. The RECOMB conference series was started in 1997 by Sorin Istrail, Pavel Pevzner, and Michael Waterman. RECOMB 2010 was hosted by INESC-ID and Instituto Superior Tecnico, or- nized by a committee chaired by Arlindo Oliveira and took place at the Int- national Fair of Lisbon Meeting Centre. This year, 36 papers were accepted for presentation out of 176 submissions. The papers presented were selected by the Program Committee (PC) assisted by a number of external reviewers. Each paper was reviewed by three members of the PC, or by external reviewers, and there was an extensive Web-based discussion over a period of two weeks, leading to the ?nal decisions. RECOMB 2010 also introduced a Highlights Track, in which six additional presentations by senior authors were chosen from papers published in 2009. The RECOMB conferenceseriesiscloselyassociatedwiththeJournalofComputational Biology, which traditionally publishes special issues devoted to presenting full versions of selected conference papers.
