Synopsis Peaceful Kingdom by : Stephanie Laland
In the tradition of the bestselling Random Acts of Kindness series, Peaceful Kingdom speaks volumes of the compassion to be found within the animal kingdom. "Survival of the fittest is not always the case", says author Stephanie Laland. The truth lies closer to Eden, in a loving companionship between humans and animals. "While I was collecting material for a newspaper column, I was astonished by the diversity of the kindness stories I began to find. It wasn't just cats and dogs performing rescues and other loving acts, but dolphins and birds and even a pig". While the headlines across the world reported that Binti-Jua, a female gorilla, had saved a young boy who had fallen into her compound at the Brookfield Illinois Zoo, a mother cat named Scarlett also rescued her kittens from a burning building. As featured on Oprah, Scarlett saved her family, suffering severe burns and creating a media frenzy that prompted thousands of people to inquire about adopting her. Laland offers us hundreds of such anecdotes, as well as fascinating scientific facts about the inherent kindness of animals toward humans and one another. The stories range from the sweet and heart-warming to the overwhelming and surprising, including a tale about a canary who sacrificed her own life by relentlessly pecking at a neighbor's window because the bird's elderly owner had fallen down and could not get up. Also included are a resource guide to animal protection organizations and pet enthusiast groups worldwide, dozens of quotes from famous animal lovers, and hundreds of suggestions on what we can do to give something back to both pets and wildlife. Animal expert Laland has compiled a uniquely memorable andinspiring gift for animal lovers around the world.

Synopsis Random Kindness and Senseless Acts of Beauty by : Anne Herbert
This modern allegory inspires taking joyful steps to end hatred and violence. In the playful style of twelfth-century Japanese picture scrolls, Mayumi Oda's art depicts humans as animals who lose their way when their leaders become confused and drawn to violence. It is up to each individual—the frog who plants a garden, the cat who supports an elderly neighbor—to create a better world through simple acts of kindness. This timeless parable for readers of all ages expands upon the idea that we can all become agents of goodness and beauty. Winner of the 2016 Independent Publishers Gold Medal.

Synopsis The Other End of the Leash by : Patricia McConnell, Ph.D.
Learn to communicate with your dog—using their language “Good reading for dog lovers and an immensely useful manual for dog owners.”—The Washington Post An Applied Animal Behaviorist and dog trainer with more than twenty years’ experience, Dr. Patricia McConnell reveals a revolutionary new perspective on our relationship with dogs—sharing insights on how “man’s best friend” might interpret our behavior, as well as essential advice on how to interact with our four-legged friends in ways that bring out the best in them. After all, humans and dogs are two entirely different species, each shaped by its individual evolutionary heritage. Quite simply, humans are primates and dogs are canids (as are wolves, coyotes, and foxes). Since we each speak a different native tongue, a lot gets lost in the translation. This marvelous guide demonstrates how even the slightest changes in our voices and in the ways we stand can help dogs understand what we want. Inside you will discover: • How you can get your dog to come when called by acting less like a primate and more like a dog • Why the advice to “get dominance” over your dog can cause problems • Why “rough and tumble primate play” can lead to trouble—and how to play with your dog in ways that are fun and keep him out of mischief • How dogs and humans share personality types—and why most dogs want to live with benevolent leaders rather than “alpha wanna-bes!” Fascinating, insightful, and compelling, The Other End of the Leash is a book that strives to help you connect with your dog in a completely new way—so as to enrich that most rewarding of relationships.

Synopsis Our Random Acts of Kindness by : Phil Riggs
If you are looking for a heart warming book to read, this is the book you will enjoy. Imagine a mother meeting the person who delivered a life saving liver to her daughter, even though they lived nearly 3000 km apart from each other. When a women is tired of the mental and physical abuse of her alcoholic husband, she travels from Boston to the mostly easterly city in North America, St. John's. Alone and destitute, she is taken in by a widow and her sons and cared for. A five year old girl, living in a small Labrador town, contracts tuberculosis, in the late 1950s. She is sent to a sanitarium to recover. She thinks she is going to a place to play in the 'sand' since the nickname for the institution is "The Sand." What she discovers is a far cry from what she had imagined. However, she receives kindness in a way unimaginable to her. Finally, a Santa is so caught up in delivering gifts to less fortunate children on Christmas Eve, that he forgets about time. Too late he realizes he didn't make it to the Sears catalogue outlet in time to pick up a special gift for his wife on Christmas Day. These are just a sample of the many stories that are in this book. Stories that have not been heard on social media before.
