Synopsis Burn: Michael Faraday's Candle by : Darcy Pattison
Read Along or Enhanced eBook: WHAT MAKES A CANDLE BURN? Solid wax is somehow changed into light and heat. But how? Travel back in time to December 28, 1848 in London, England to one of the most famous juvenile science Christmas lectures at the Royal Institution. British scientist Michael Faraday (1791-1867) encouraged kids to carefully observe a candle and to try to figure out how it burned. Known as one of the best science experimenters ever, Faraday’s passion was always to answer the basic questions of science: “What is the cause? Why does it occur?” Since Faraday’s lecture, “The Chemical History of a Candle,” was published in 1861, it’s never been out of print. Oddly, till now, it’s never been published as a children’s picture book. Faraday originally gave seven lectures on how a candle burns. Pattison has adapted the first 6000-word lecture to about 650 words for modern elementary students.

Synopsis Pagan Portals - Candle Magic by : Lucya Starza
Candle magic is something almost everyone has tried, even as a child - who hasn’t made a wish over a birthday cake? Candle spells are among the easiest yet also the most effective to perform. They are perfect for anyone who wants to have a go at casting a spell for the first time and for the solitary witch with a busy life. Yet candles are also an important part of modern pagan witchcraft rituals. They are used to mark the quarters of the circle, placed on the altar and can represent the changing seasons of the year. This book is aimed at all who want to use candle magic, from beginners to those experienced in the craft; with everything from simple castings to elaborate and beautiful ceremonies. It offers a background to candle magic as well as spells, rituals, divination techniques, meditations, a guide to making your own candles and more.

Synopsis Woody and the Candle Mountain by : Crystal Schachter
Woody and the Candle Mountain is the story of a day in Woody’s life, as she wanders through her hometown looking hopelessly for something worth doing. She meets many local characters along the way, who all somehow manage to offer the same peace, love and granola advice, and small tokens of inspiration, which she gloomily accepts and moves on. Eventually, she visits the candle shop to admire the legendary Candle Mountain, a massive wax sculpture created over many years from hundreds of thousands of melted candles. But even this aweinspiring monument to persistence and growth, and the kind wisdom of the candle maker and his wife, can’t budge Woody’s mood. But just when she’s convinced that her day’s search has been completely useless, she finds herself in a place where her little bits of knowledge make a world of difference.
