Synopsis Quest for the African Dinosaurs by : Louis Jacobs
The story of one paleontologist's fossil digs in Africa, and his unexpected findings Winner of the Colbert Award for the best adult book about dinosaurs Winner of the Colbert Award for the best adult book about dinosaurs Louis Jacobs reopened paleontologists' eyes to the African continent when he uncovered a major fossil site in the hills of Malawi in the 1980s. During five digging seasons in Malawi and three in Cameroon, Jacobs found the remains of two meat-eating theropods, two herbivorous sauropods, an odd crocodile about the size of a Chihuahua, and rare early mammals. Now in paperback, Quest for the African Dinosaurs includes Jacobs' new introduction, which discusses recent developments in paleontological research in Africa.

Synopsis African Dinosaurs Unearthed by : Gerhard Maier
From 1907 to 1931 at Tendaguru, a remote site in present-day Tanzania, teams of German (and later British) paleontologists unearthed 220 tons of fossils, including the bones of a new dinosaur, one of the largest then known. For decades the mounted skeleton of this giant, Brachiosaurus, was the largest skeleton of a land animal on exhibit in the world. The dinosaur and other animal fossils found at Tendaguru form one of the cornerstones of our understanding of life in the Mesozoic era. Visited sporadically during the '30s and '40s, Tendaguru again became the site of scientific interest late in the 20th century. African Dinosaurs Unearthed tells the story of driven scientific adventurers working under difficult conditions and often paying the price with their health—and sometimes with their lives. Set against the background of a troubled century, the book reveals how scientific endeavors were carried on through war and political turmoil, and continue into the present day.

Synopsis Difficult Questions on Dinosaurs by : Richard Pittack
This book is not the typical "Questions and Answers on Dinosaurs" book. It is not a book for children enabling them to find out the largest recorded dinosaur, to discover what dinosaurs ate or even how they managed to get up after nap time. An informative book on the biology and anatomy of the "mighty reptiles" - it is not. The series of questions in this treatise of answers has arisen from meetings conducted on dinosaurs. The questions have come from all kinds of people in various and sundry walks of life. Some of the questions were common and not much is to be learned from answers to such generalities However, some of the questions are not only posited by the curious but come from hearts filled with consternation while contemplating the subject of Theodicy. Did the Creator contribute heavily to the world's landscape of tooth and claw? Is the canvass of God's creation not only etched in blood but filled with the stench and smell emanating from the so-called Mesozoic Era of the past?

Synopsis The Complete Dinosaur by : M. K. Brett-Surman
A new edition of the illustrated compendium that is “a gift to serious dinosaur enthusiasts” (Science). What do we know about dinosaurs, and how do we know it? How did they grow, move, eat, and reproduce? Were they warm-blooded or cold-blooded? How intelligent were they? How are the various groups of dinosaurs related to each other, and to other kinds of living and extinct vertebrates? What can the study of dinosaurs tell us about the process of evolution? And why did typical dinosaurs become extinct? These questions and more are addressed in this new, expanded edition of The Complete Dinosaur. Written by leading experts on the “fearfully great” reptiles, the book covers what we have learned about dinosaurs, from the earliest discoveries to the most recent controversies. Where scientific contention exists, the editors have let the experts agree to disagree.
