Synopsis PUT OFF THE OLD PERSON WITH ITS PRACTICES by : Edward D. Andrews

Some Bible writers (e.g., Apostle Paul) revealed to their readers that there is an ongoing conflict between the Christian, with one side being the fallen, sinful flesh. In this revelation, the Bible writers use such expressions as "the inner man," "our inner man," and comparable expressions. At Romans 2:14-15, Paul speaks of us saying, "The law is written on their hearts." Because man and woman were made in the image and likeness of God, they were given a moral nature that was in harmony with God. This moral nature produces a mental power or ability such as reason and conscience. Even though, we are imperfect, we retain a measure of this moral nature that is in harmony with God's moral standards. This moral nature operates in "the inner man," as a law, a moral law. However, because of our fallen condition, there is also 'the law of sin, which is in our members.' This 'law in our members of our body, wages a war against the law of our mind and can make us a prisoner of the law of sin.'―Romans 6:12; 7:22, 23 Nevertheless, not all is lost, because Paul also tells us that we can 'be renewed in the spirit of our minds.' (Eph. 4:23) We can 'put off the old person with its practices and have put on the new person. We will then be renewed in knowledge according to the image of our Creator.' We will be transformed by the renewing of our mind, so that we may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.'―Colossians 3:9-10; Romans 12:2 We are 'baptized into Christ Jesus we are baptized into his death. Our old self is crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. Nevertheless, while we are in an imperfect condition, the law of God is in our inner being, but in our members, is another law waging war against the law of my mind and making us captive to the law of sin that dwells in our members. While we serve the law of God with our mind, with our flesh we serve the law of sin.' (Rom. 6:3-7; 7:21-25) The premise of this book is quite simple, how do we take off the old person and put on new person? In addition, what must we do, to keep on sustaining that new person?

Synopsis Ephesians: Evangelical Exegetical Commentary by : S. M. Baugh

In his letter to the Ephesians, Paul emphasizes the unity of believers in the inaugurated new creation. He first sets before his audience the salvation freely offered to us through faith in Christ, then applies this truth to their lives, calling them to live lives of love. In this volume, S. M. Baugh approaches this important letter from a first-century perspective, examining ancient sources to determine what Paul's words meant in their ancient context, while also interacting with recent scholarship. The result is a commentary that is academically rigorous and at the same time presents Ephesians as the good news it was meant to be. About the Evangelical Exegetical Commentary Series: The Evangelical Exegetical Commentary series incorporates the latest in critical biblical scholarship and is written from a distinctly evangelical perspective. Each comprehensive volume combines historical and literary explanations with insights for understanding the text within the Bible's larger story and applying it to everyday life.

Synopsis The Illustrated Life of Paul by : Charles L. Quarles

Except for the Lord Jesus himself, no person has been more influential in the history of the church than Saul of Tarsus. Paul’s influence upon the early church’s most cherished convictions is so clear and powerful that some scholars have dared to describe him as the founder of Christianity. Paul had a greater impact on the formation of the Christian church than any other apostle. He wrote thirteen of the twenty-seven books of the New Testament so that nearly half of the New Testament documents bear his name. Although some of Paul’s letters are brief compared to other New Testament books, his epistles compromise approximately one-fourth of the total volume of the New Testament.Approximately sixteen chapters of the Book of Acts focus on Paul’s persecution of the church, conversion, missionary labors, arrest and imprisonment. When these chapters are combined with Paul’s letters, Paul may be recognized as the author or subject of nearly one-third of the New Testament. Paul was not only the most effective Christian missionary and church planter in history, but also the most significant and influential interpreter of Jesus’ teachings and of the significance of Jesus’ life, death, resurrection, and return. This book introduces readers to this amazing man and his incredible story. It explains the background of each of Paul’s letters and offers a summary of the beliefs of one of the keenest theological minds in the history of the church. All along, it enables the reader an opportunity to step into the world of Paul with over 150 photos, maps, illustrations, and charts.

One of the several factors which have contributed to this is the improvement in life expectancy which is due to the improved medical care brought about by technological advancement. It is expected that in the coming decades, there will be a much more increase in the number of elderly people who are to be supported and cared for. This may be well ahead of institutional readiness to cope up with the growing number of the elderly people, judging by what is happening now.
