The book ?Channeling 2008?, Charged and Neutral Particles Channeling Phenomena, is formed by the same title conference contributions. This volume includes papers by leading researchers from different world centers. Their recent results on the coherent phenomena of charged and neutral particles propagating through the structures of various sizes and periodicities are included here, along with historical reviews by pioneers of coherent bremsstrahlung and channeling radiation as well as crystal channeling collimation.

For the Galvani Bicentenary Celebrations, the University of Bologna and its Academy of Sciences singled out subnuclear physics as the field of scientific research to be associated with this important event, as it would best illustrate, for the new generation of students, the challenge inherent in fundamental sciences. Subnuclear physics has represented, ever since it was born, the new frontiers of Galilean science. In his opening lecture delivered on the first day of the new academic year, Professor Antonino Zichichi analytically reviewed the basic conceptual developments and main discoveries achieved in subnuclear physics since its birth in the 20th century. Given the importance of this field of fundamental research, Professor Zichichi was invited to expand the contents of his lecture into a book, and the outcome is this volume.

The various phenomena caused by refraction and diffraction of polarized elementary particles in matter have opened up a new research area in the particle physics: nuclear optics of polarized particles. Effects similar to the well-known optical phenomena such as birefringence and Faraday effects, exist also in particle physics, though the particle wavelength is much less than the distance between atoms of matter. Current knowledge of the quasi-optical effects, which exist for all particles in any wavelength range (and energies from low to extremely high), will enable us to investigate different properties of interacting particles (nuclei) in a new aspect.This pioneering book will provide detailed accounts of quasi-optical phenomena in the particle polarization, and will interest physicists and professionals in experimental particle physics.

This volume describes the critical issues involved in scaling the technology of proton synchrotrons to operate at energies much larger than those of existing accelerators. Luminosity limitions and interdependence of machine characteristics are analyzed. The second section presents analyses of the detector technologies needed to utilize a hadron super collider at the highest energies and luminosities.

The realization that precision LEP data lend support to the idea of supersymmetric grand unification and supersymmetry in general, led to the organization of the First HARC International Workshop on Recent Advances in the SuperWorld. The idea was to have a workshop that discussed all aspects of the supersymmetric world — the SuperWorld as it should be properly known. These aspects are so diverse that they are usually studied by high energy physicists with vastly different interests. The selection of speakers included the whole spectrum in 'energy', from experimental physicists, to specialists in low energy phenomenology, supersymmetric grand unification, supergravity, superstrings and supercosmology.

Superconductors today constitute a major focus of activity in the development of high resolution detectors for many applications. This volume collects the papers of an international workshop on the basic theoretical and experimental issues involved in the interaction between particles and superconductors. It emphasizes the involved condensed matter aspects of non-equilibrium time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau equations, metastable superconductivity, quasiparticle and phonon lifetimes, and quasiparticle trapping, as well as low-noise pulse electronics, detector fabrication and low background cryogenics.

The Standard Model of particle physics is extremely successful in describing nature. It is, however, incomplete in one major way: the masses of gauge bosons and fermions enter the Standard Model through the Higgs mechanism. That is completely satisfactory technically, but it is not understood physically. We do not yet know what nature really does to give mass to particles. Understanding Higgs physics is necessary in order to complete the Standard Model, and to learn how to extend it and improve its foundations.This book is a collection of current work and thinking about these questions by active workers. It speculates about what form the answers will take, as well as updates and extends previous books and reviews. Some chapters emphasize theoretical questions, some focus on connections with other areas of physics, and some discuss how we can get data to uncover nature's solution. In June 2016, a group of 167 physicists from 31 countries have met in Erice to participate in the 54th Course of the International School of Subnuclear Physics. The main focus of this year's course has been the new frontiers of Physics in the LHC-2 Era and in all labs the world over, as well as the new frontiers in related fields.
