These proceedings contain both general expository papers and research announcements in several active areas of probability and statistics. A large range of topics is covered from theory (Sobolev inequalities and heat semigroup, Brownian motions, white noise analysis, geometrical structure of statistical experiments) to applications (simulated annealing, ARMA models).

An aid for researching non-western cultures, this bibliography covers Japan, China, North and South Korea, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, with approximately 3500 listings from LC MARC tapes and the Oriental Division of the New York Public Library. It includes publications about East Asia; materials published in any of the relevant countries; and publications in the Chinese, Japanese and Korean languages. Listings are transcribed into Anglicized characters. Each entry provides complete bibliographic information, along with the NYPL and/or LC call numbers.

This volume of proceedings is a collection of refereed papers resulting from the VI Hotine-Marussi Symposium on Theoretical and Computational Geodesy. The papers cover almost every topic of geodesy, including satellite gravity modeling, geodynamics, GPS data processing, statistical estimation and prediction theory, and geodetic inverse problem theory. In addition, particular attention is paid to topics of fundamental importance in the next one or two decades in Earth Science.

China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) has embarked on its most wide-ranging and ambitious restructuring since 1949, including major changes to most of its key organizations. The restructuring reflects the desire to strengthen PLA joint operation capabilities- on land, sea, in the air, and in the space and cyber domains. The reforms could result in a more adept joint warfighting force, though the PLA will continue to face a number of key hurdles to effective joint operations, Several potential actions would indicate that the PLA is overcoming obstacles to a stronger joint operations capability. The reforms are also intended to increase Chairman Xi Jinping's control over the PLA and to reinvigorate Chinese Communist Party (CCP) organs within the military. Xi Jinping's ability to push through reforms indicates that he has more authority over the PLA than his recent predecessors. The restructuring could create new opportunities for U.S.-China military contacts.

To explore what extended competition between the United States and China might entail out to 2050, the authors of this report identified and characterized China’s grand strategy, analyzed its component national strategies (diplomacy, economics, science and technology, and military affairs), and assessed how successful China might be at implementing these over the next three decades.
