Synopsis Ritchie Mined - Volume I by : Bill H. Ritchie
Short summaries of 3,026 essays by Bill H. Ritchie, artist, teacher and visionary drawn from his journals written between 1969 - 2009. He structured the headings of each article according an imaginary place he calls "Emeralda," imagining ten islands on a lake where he, as a recipient of a mythical prize, is encouraged to write freely about anything that seems important to an artist, teacher and philosopher. Mindful of the use of new technologies, each essay summary has key index features which would allow a reader having a computer and optional CD/ROM to retrieve the full text of any article. Or, using freely chosen keywords of their own, find the articles which have those words in them.

Synopsis Printmaking by : Philippa Hobbs
This book provides a comprehensive overview of printmaking in South Africa, replacing the now outdated monograph by F. L. Alexander. It discusses historically artists who made major contributions within each of the printmaking techniques, giving great detail on contemporary South African art. It is also a handbook on artists working in various mediums and gives full explanations of each work chosen for the exhibition at the 1998 South African National Arts Festival, lists 785 known printmakers born after 1900, and illustrates the work of 89 important artists. It is an essential guide to this important aspect of South African art.

Synopsis Printmaking in America by : Trudy V. Hansen
The years from 1960 to 1990 witnessed an extraordinary outburst of creative activity among American printmakers. A number of important new workshops were founded, from such influential studios as Universal Limited Art Editions as Long Island and the Tamarind Lithography Workshop in Los Angeles to small presses throughout the country. In contrast to traditional European ateliers, where professional printers reproduced artists' designs for commercial edition printing, the new American workshops stressed collaboration, and emphasized radical experimentation with medium and process. The work produced in these studios often owed as much to the imaginative gifts of the printer as the conception of the artist.
