Synopsis Tensegrity Structures and their Application to Architecture by : Valentín Gómez Jáuregui

Tensegrity structures are really intriguing: bars floating in the air, without any contact to a solid support, attached only by wires to other bars… that are also floating in the air! The aim of this work is to serve as an introduction to such an atypical kind of structure. It tries to explain everything about the controversial origins and polemic fatherhood; tensegrities from various fields, other than Architecture, structural principles, characteristics, advantages and weakness; precedent and current works and patents; and finally, some new proposals, proving that it is possible to find some applications to architectural and engineering purposes. In conclusion, this work tries to be a guide and reference to a new world of structural possibilities that is blooming and finding its path.

Synopsis Prevention of Antipsychotic Induced Weight Gain by a Lifestyle Intervention Program by : Emiliyana Ilieff

Antipsychotic induced weight gain is a growing problem in the United States and globally. There is higher mortality and morbidity rates for individuals with mental health disorders who are taking antipsychotic medications causing significant weight gain. Weight gain results in cardiovascular problems, diabetes, self-esteem problems, and a shorter lifespan. This has a serious impact on the quality of life of individuals with mental health disorders, decreasing social, physical, and sexual functioning. Purpose and background information will be provided concerning antipsychotic induced weight gain. Addressing the problem of antipsychotic-induced weight gain, a lifestyle intervention program over 12-month period with 12 contacts will be implemented and evaluated. In the lifestyle intervention program there will be a focus on an exercise, behavioral education, and diet. The lifestyle intervention program will be evaluated before, 6 months into the program, and after by assessing the weight, waist, BMI, blood pressure, fasting blood sugar levels, total cholesterol, and HDL cholesterol of patients. The outcomes will demonstrate the baseline values and post lifestyle intervention values of the lipid levels, blood pressure levels, glucose levels, and BMI to evaluate the effectiveness of the program to the overall health and weight loss for patients. The findings will be disseminated to key stakeholders.

Synopsis Psychosis and Schizophrenia in Children and Young People by : National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health (Great Britain)

These guidelines from NICE set out clear recommendations, based on the best available evidence, for health care professionals on how to work with and implement physical, psychological and service-level interventions for people with various mental health conditions. The book contains the full guidelines that cannot be obtained in print anywhere else. It brings together all of the evidence that led to the recommendations made, detailed explanations of the methodology behind their preparation, plus an overview of the condition covering detection, diagnosis and assessment, and the full range of treatment and care approaches. There is a worse prognosis for psychosis and schizophrenia when onset is in childhood or adolescence, and this new NICE guideline puts much-needed emphasis on early recognition and assessment of possible psychotic symptoms. For the one-third of children and young people who go on to experience severe impairment as a result of psychosis or schizophrenia the guideline also offers comprehensive advice from assessment and treatment of the first episode through to promoting recovery. This guideline reviews the evidence for recognition and management of psychosis and schizophrenia in children and young people across the care pathway, encompassing access to and delivery of services, experience of care, recognition and management of at-risk mental states, psychological and pharmacological interventions, and improving cognition and enhancing engagement with education and employment.

Synopsis The Psychosis-Risk Syndrome by : Thomas McGlashan

Using the authors' over thirteen years of experience at the psychosis-risk clinic at Yale University School of Medicine, The Psychosis-Risk Syndrome presents a concise handbook that details the diagnostic tools and building blocks that comprise the Structural Interview for Psychosis-Risk Syndromes, or SIPS. Clear and to the point, this volume provides an in-depth description of this new clinical high-risk population, along with instructions on how to use the SIPS to evaluate persons for psychosis-risk.The handbook's main section takes the reader step-by-step through the SIPS evaluation, tracking how patients and families find their way to the clinic, the initial interview, the evaluation process, and the summary session consisting of findings and future options. The core diagnostic symptoms of the SIPS and psychosis-risk states are illustrated with dozens of symptom and case examples drawn from real but disguised patients from the Yale clinic. With an emphasis on clinical usefulness, the handbook finishes with "practice cases" for the reader to test his or her new skills at evaluating clinical populations for psychosis-risk.
