This issue of Abstract Digest comes to you at an unprecedented time of COVID-19 pandemic. We hope all of you are healthy and safe. In the current circumstances, Naja and Hamadeh present a framework for action at multiple levels to maintain optimal nutrition during COVID-19, at the individual, community, national and global levels. Along with it, this issue has a collection of articles on various outcomes, determinants and interventions related to maternal and child nutrition.

Issue 38 of the Abstract Digest brings to you a series of studies on nutrition outcomes, including prevalence of stunting and its association with women’s empowerment, nutrients in complementary feeding, and the impact of nutritional interventions among lactating mothers. In this issue we have also included two special sections. One features COVID-19 related studies and blogs, and the other features studies that have used the recently released National Family Health Survey-5 data.

We are delighted to present to you the first issue of Abstract Digest for this year. This issue has two important LANCET Commission Reports. The EAT–Lancet Commission is the first of a series of initiatives on nutrition, led by The Lancet in 2019, followed by the Commission on the Global Syndemic of obesity, undernutrition, and climate change. Along with these, we have articles from an issue of Public Health Nutrition that focuses on child and adolescent nutrition, and much more.

This issue of Abstract Digest brings to you a set of interesting articles on stunting burden, drivers, and learnings from countries that have been successful in reducing stunting, including a case study on Chhattisgarh. In addition, there are studies on anthropometric data quality assessment, and a study describing the health system components required for the delivery of nutrition-specific interventions. This issue also includes studies on COVID-19 and its implications for child nutrition. In this edition, we have included a Call for Action issued by leaders of four UN agencies to protect children's right to nutrition in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. In India, a diverse group of nutrition stakeholders have pledged their renewed Commitment to Action for supporting efforts by the government and all of society.

This last issue of the Abstract Digest for 2016 brings to focus the importance of maternal factors including pre- and peri-conceptional nutrition, education and stature, as well as macro-level factors such as sustained economic growth and investments in health, education, and water for the overall well-being of a child.

Issue 46 of the POSHAN Abstract Digest brings to you yet another collection of articles on various maternal and child nutrition topics. This issue features studies on the prevalence and impact of anaemia in adolescents, an ecological analysis of child undernutrition and overweight, micronutrient supplementation and linear growth, diets, diet quality, and dietary diversity. growth. This issue also include two studies- one on cost-consequence analyses and another on the process evaluation-based on nutrition-sensitive agriculture interventions implemented in Odisha to improve maternal and child health nutrition. Other interesting studies included in this issue are on birthweight data quality, decentralization in the Integrated Child Development Services, use of digital technology to improve service delivery, and changes to service delivery in multiple states across India during COVID-19.

In this issue of Abstract Digest, we present to you a collection of articles on various outcomes, determinants and interventions related to maternal and child nutrition, from around the world and India, in particular. Additionally, articles from three special issues including BMJ Global Health’s supplement on the measurement of reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health and nutrition, Maternal & Child Nutrition’s supplement on the marketing and consumption of commercial foods fed to young children in low and middle‐income countries, and the Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences’ special issue on the risk of excessive intake of vitamins and minerals are featured in this issue.

The 41st issue of POSHAN Abstract Digest brings to you yet again a tailored set of articles on malnutrition in India. This issue features a studies examining trends in nutrition outcomes, inequities associated with anthropometric failure, and role of WASH in addressing undernutrition. In addition, this issue also features articles on the intergenerational benefits of India’s national school feeding program, effect of women’s labor force participation on nutrition, and the role of maternal empowerment and paternal gender-equitable attitudes on stunting.

This issue of Abstract Digest comes to you at a time when the global nutrition research community is actively looking for ways to address malnutrition in the changing context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The articles in this issue include a modelling study by Roberton and colleagues on early estimates of the indirect effects of COVID-19 pandemic on maternal and child mortality in low-income and middle-income countries, and comments on it.
