Synopsis DNA Damage, DNA Repair and Disease by : Miral Dizdaroglu
The DNA of all organisms is constantly being damaged by endogenous and exogenous sources. Oxygen metabolism generates reactive species that can damage DNA, proteins and other organic compounds in living cells. Exogenous sources include ionizing and ultraviolet radiations, carcinogenic compounds and environmental toxins among others. The discovery of multiple DNA lesions and DNA repair mechanisms showed the involvement of DNA damage and DNA repair in the pathogenesis of many human diseases, most notably cancer. These books provide a comprehensive overview of the interdisciplinary area of DNA damage and DNA repair, and their relevance to disease pathology. Edited by recognised leaders in the field, this two-volume set is an appealing resource to a variety of readers including chemists, chemical biologists, geneticists, cancer researchers and drug discovery scientists.

Synopsis Successful Drug Discovery, Volume 4 by : János Fischer
Provides unique insider insight into the current drug development process, and what it takes to achieve success In this fourth volume in the series, inventors and primary developers of drugs that made it to the market continue telling the story of the drugs? discovery and development, and discuss the sometimes twisted route from the first drug candidate molecule to the final marketed one. Beginning with a general section addressing overarching topics for drug discovery, the book offers seven chapters that feature selected case studies describing recently introduced drugs or drug classes. These include small molecule drugs as well as biopharmaceuticals and range across different therapeutic fields. Together, they provide a representative cross-section of the present-day drug development effort. Successful Drug Discovery: Volume 4 covers trends in peptide-based drug discovery and the physicochemical properties of recently approved oral drugs. The section on drug class studies looks at antibody-drug conjugates and the discovery, evolution, and therapeutic potential of dopamine partial agonists. Featured case studies examine the discovery of Etelcalcetide for the treatment of secondary hyper-parathyroidism in patients with chronic kidney disease; the development of Lenvatinib Mesylate; the discovery and development of Venetoclax; and more. -Focuses on recently introduced drugs that have not been featured in any textbooks or general references, including Ocrelizumab, a new generation of anti-CD-20 mAb for the treatment of multiple sclerosis, and Venetoclax, a selective antagonist of BCL-2 -Features personal experiences of successful drug developers from industry and academia -Endorsed and supported by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) Successful Drug Discovery: Volume 4 provides a fascinating and informative look into the process of drug discovery and would be a great reference for those in the pharmaceutical industry, organic and pharmaceutical chemists, and lecturers in pharmacy.

Synopsis Cancer Epigenetics by : Trygve Tollefsbol
During the past few decades, it has become increasingly apparent that heredity is not the sole determining factor in disease development, such as cancer. This landmark work covers a wide array of aspects in the relatively new area of epigenetics, ranging from its role in the basic mechanisms of tumorigenesis, to the newest epigenetic drugs being de

Synopsis Handbook of Epigenetics by : Trygve O Tollefsbol
Handbook of Epigenetics: The New Molecular and Medical Genetics, Second Edition, provides a comprehensive analysis of epigenetics, from basic biology, to clinical application. Epigenetics is considered by many to be the new genetics in that many biological phenomena are controlled, not through gene mutations, but rather through reversible and heritable epigenetic processes. These epigenetic processes range from DNA methylation to prions. The biological processes impacted by epigenetics are vast and encompass effects in lower organisms and humans that include tissue and organ regeneration, X-chromosome inactivation, stem cell differentiation, genomic imprinting, and aging. The first edition of this important work received excellent reviews; the second edition continues its comprehensive coverage adding more current research and new topics based on customer and reader reviews, including new discoveries, approved therapeutics, and clinical trials. From molecular mechanisms and epigenetic technology, to discoveries in human disease and clinical epigenetics, the nature and applications of the science is presented for those with interests ranging from the fundamental basis of epigenetics, to therapeutic interventions for epigenetic-based disorders. - Timely and comprehensive collection of fully up-to-date reviews on epigenetics that are organized into one volume and written by leading figures in the field - Covers the latest advances in many different areas of epigenetics, ranging from basic aspects, to technologies, to clinical medicine - Written at a verbal and technical level that can be understood by scientists and college students - Updated to include new epigenetic discoveries, newly approved therapeutics, and clinical trials

Synopsis ADP-Ribosylation of Proteins by : Felix R. Althaus
This book provides an update on recent advances in the field of ADP ribosylation reactions. The individual chapters represent the synopses of contributions which were presented at the Seventh International Symposium on ADP-Ribosylation Reactions, held in Vitznau, Switzer land, from September 23 to 27, 1984. This volume covers new devel opments in the field since the last meeting was held on this topic in 1982, in Tokyo. Therefore, the present text is not meant to form a comprehensive account of a specialized research area, but encompasses a collection of state-of-the-art reports from the vast majority of laboratories currently involved in ADP-ribosylation work. For the sake of rapid publication, the editorial policy was to ensure easy accessibility of information contained in individual articles rather than to provide elaborate cross references or reference to work published prior to 1982. However, a detailed subject index will help the reader find complementary information. The enzymes of ADP-ribose metabolism have not yet acquired universally acceptable trivial names and the Enzyme Commission has not yet defmitely decided on formal appellations. Consequently, a variety of names for the nuclear enzyme appear in this book, including nuc1ear(ADP-ribosyl)transferase, poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase, or synthetase or synthase. Hopefully, a common convention will soon be established. The Seventh International Symposium on ADP-Ribosylation Reac tions was only possible because of the generous support which we have been given by our sponsors, listed below.

Synopsis ADP-Ribosylation Reactions by : Osamu Hayaishi
ADP-Ribosylation Reactions: Biology and Medicine deals with the biochemical and physiological aspects of poly(ADP-ribose) and ADP-ribosylation of proteins. Topics covered range from pyridine nucleotide metabolism and ADP-ribosylation to the structure and properties of poly(ADP-ribose), along with acceptor proteins of poly(ADP-ribose). ADP-ribosyl protein linkages and poly(ADP-ribose) synthetase are also discussed. Comprised of 39 chapters, this book begins with a historical background on the discovery of poly(ADP-ribose) and the significance of poly- and mono(ADP-ribosyl)ation reactions in molecular biology. The next section explores the role of ADP-ribosylation in NAD metabolism, paying particular attention to poly(ADP-ribose) synthetase-DNA interaction and the link between chromatin structure and poly(ADP-ribosyl)ation. Subsequent chapters focus on subfractions and subcellular distribution of mono(ADP-ribosyl) proteins in eukaryotic cells; polyadenylylation and ADP-ribosylation of reovirus proteins; poly(ADP-ribose) synthesis in plants; and immunohistochemistry of poly(ADP-ribose). The final chapter analyzes the ADP-ribosylation activity of toxin A and exoenzyme S in Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This monograph is written for students, practitioners, and researchers in fields such as molecular biology, medical chemistry, and biochemistry.
