Synopsis Pillararenes by : Tomoki Ogoshi
First reported in 2008, Pillararenes are a new class of macrocyclic hosts consisting of hydroquinone units linked at the para-position. With a composition similar to cucurbiturils and calixarenes, they combine the advantages and aspects of traditional hosts and have applications in sensing, material synthesis and biomedicine. Pillararenes starts with the historical background of macrocyclic compounds and then following chapters cover the synthesis of pillararenes, their structures, conformations and planar chirality. Dedicated chapters then cover their host-guest properties and supramolecular assemblies based on pillararenes including supramolecular polymers and mechanically interlocked molecules. Edited by the leader in the field, this is the first book to cover pillararenes and will appeal to graduate students, researchers and academics in supramolecular chemistry, organic chemistry, polymer chemistry and materials science interested in the chemistry and applications of pillararenes.

Synopsis The 15th International Conference on Biomedical Engineering by : James Goh
This volume presents the processing of the 15th ICMBE held from 4th to 7th December 2013, Singapore. Biomedical engineering is applied in most aspects of our healthcare ecosystem. From electronic health records to diagnostic tools to therapeutic, rehabilitative and regenerative treatments, the work of biomedical engineers is evident. Biomedical engineers work at the intersection of engineering, life sciences and healthcare. The engineers would use principles from applied science including mechanical, electrical, chemical and computer engineering together with physical sciences including physics, chemistry and mathematics to apply them to biology and medicine. Applying such concepts to the human body is very much the same concepts that go into building and programming a machine. The goal is to better understand, replace or fix a target system to ultimately improve the quality of healthcare. With this understanding, the conference proceedings offer a single platform for individuals and organizations working in the biomedical engineering related field to gather and network with each other in so doing create the catalyst for future development of biomedical engineering in Asia.

Synopsis Photophysics of Supramolecular Architectures by : Paulpandian Muthu Mareeswaran
This reference provides collective information about the physical andphotophysical changes of supramolecules after encapsulation. It coversluminescent systems involving a range of host molecules such as calixarenes, cyclodextrin, resorcinanene-crowns, pillararenes, cucurbituril, andmetallacycles. Chapters also discuss the effect of the macrocyclic environment onthe properties of functionalized molecules, including the variations in foldingand unfolding patterns. Each chapter is supplemented with detailed references, making this an ideal resource for scholars interested in supramolecularphotophysics.

Synopsis Macrocyclic Receptors for Environmental and Biosensing Applications by : Satish Kumar
The book is designed to highlight the utility of supramolecular systems in diverse areas such as sensing of ionic and molecular analytes, aggregation, artificial molecular machines, biology, and medicine. The synthetic chemistry of a diverse set of supramolecules encompassing various supramolecular interactions involved in driving macrocyclic architectures is discussed. Attempts have been made to cover unique features of macrocycles viz. control over shape, size, and valency along with supramolecular interactions, which direct complex supramolecular systems. The book also provides a discussion on the similarity between macrocyclic host-guest systems and biomolecules, which lay the foundation of building modern artificial molecular motors and switches like protein machines for application in diverse areas. The authors hope that the book will appeal to a wider audience of students and researchers in academics and/or industries.

Synopsis Supramolecular Chemistry by : Stefan Kubik
This introductory textbook on supramolecular chemistry is a thoroughly revised and expanded version of the 1st edition, originally published in 2020. All chapters have been brought up to date and now include "Further Reading" sections that highlight relevant developments. In addition, a new chapter on supramolecular polymers has been added. With these changes, this book provides an even more comprehensive introduction to the exciting field of supramolecular chemistry than before. Readers will learn what forces hold supramolecular architectures together, how supramolecular systems are created and characterized, how molecular switches, motors, transporters, catalysts, chemosensors, and other functional systems work, and where supramolecular chemistry can play or already plays a role in our lives. In 2022 the first edition of this book won the Literature Prize of the German Chemical Industry Association VCI. Synopsis Comprehensive Supramolecular Chemistry II by : George W. Gokel
Comprehensive Supramolecular Chemistry II, Second Edition, Nine Volume Set is a ‘one-stop shop’ that covers supramolecular chemistry, a field that originated from the work of researchers in organic, inorganic and physical chemistry, with some biological influence. The original edition was structured to reflect, in part, the origin of the field. However, in the past two decades, the field has changed a great deal as reflected in this new work that covers the general principles of supramolecular chemistry and molecular recognition, experimental and computational methods in supramolecular chemistry, supramolecular receptors, dynamic supramolecular chemistry, supramolecular engineering, crystallographic (engineered) assemblies, sensors, imaging agents, devices and the latest in nanotechnology. Each section begins with an introduction by an expert in the field, who offers an initial perspective on the development of the field. Each article begins with outlining basic concepts before moving on to more advanced material. Contains content that begins with the basics before moving on to more complex concepts, making it suitable for advanced undergraduates as well as academic researchers Focuses on application of the theory in practice, with particular focus on areas that have gained increasing importance in the 21st century, including nanomedicine, nanotechnology and medicinal chemistry Fully rewritten to make a completely up-to-date reference work that covers all the major advances that have taken place since the First Edition published in 1996
