How can the United States avoid a future surprise attack on the scale of 9/11 or Pearl Harbor, in an era when such devastating attacks can come not only from nation states, but also from terrorist groups or cyber enemies? Intelligence and Surprise Attack examines why surprise attacks often succeed even though, in most cases, warnings had been available beforehand. Erik J. Dahl challenges the conventional wisdom about intelligence failure, which holds that attacks succeed because important warnings get lost amid noise or because intelligence officials lack the imagination and collaboration to “connect the dots” of available information. Comparing cases of intelligence failure with intelligence success, Dahl finds that the key to success is not more imagination or better analysis, but better acquisition of precise, tactical-level intelligence combined with the presence of decision makers who are willing to listen to and act on the warnings they receive from their intelligence staff. The book offers a new understanding of classic cases of conventional and terrorist attacks such as Pearl Harbor, the Battle of Midway, and the bombings of US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. The book also presents a comprehensive analysis of the intelligence picture before the 9/11 attacks, making use of new information available since the publication of the 9/11 Commission Report and challenging some of that report’s findings.

Did President Roosevelt and other high-ranking U.S. government officials know about Japanese plans to attack Pearl Harbor, and fail to warn U.S. Navy leadership? Drawing on recently declassified materials and revelations from other writers, this book traces the flow of intelligence and concludes the imminent attack was allowed to happen to win the support of the American public in a war against Japan. An epilogue describes the fate of Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. Pacific Fleet Admiral Husband E. Kimmel, the intelligence he received from Washington before the attack, and the intelligence he did not.

Insights—like Darwin’s understanding of the way evolution actually works, and Watson and Crick’s breakthrough discoveries about the structure of DNA—can change the world. We also need insights into the everyday things that frustrate and confuse us so that we can more effectively solve problems and get things done. Yet we know very little about when, why, or how insights are formed—or what blocks them. In Seeing What Others Don’t, renowned cognitive psychologist Gary Klein unravels the mystery. Klein is a keen observer of people in their natural settings—scientists, businesspeople, firefighters, police officers, soldiers, family members, friends, himself—and uses a marvelous variety of stories to illuminate his research into what insights are and how they happen. What, for example, enabled Harry Markopolos to put the finger on Bernie Madoff? How did Dr. Michael Gottlieb make the connections between different patients that allowed him to publish the first announcement of the AIDS epidemic? What did Admiral Yamamoto see (and what did the Americans miss) in a 1940 British attack on the Italian fleet that enabled him to develop the strategy of attack at Pearl Harbor? How did a “smokejumper” see that setting another fire would save his life, while those who ignored his insight perished? How did Martin Chalfie come up with a million-dollar idea (and a Nobel Prize) for a natural flashlight that enabled researchers to look inside living organisms to watch biological processes in action? Klein also dissects impediments to insight, such as when organizations claim to value employee creativity and to encourage breakthroughs but in reality block disruptive ideas and prioritize avoidance of mistakes. Or when information technology systems are “dumb by design” and block potential discoveries. Both scientifically sophisticated and fun to read, in Seeing What Others Don’t insight is revealed as not just a “eureka!” moment but a whole new way of understanding.

9/11: Official Complicity is written to call attention to the inconsistencies of the American government's response to 9/11, blending a mix of fact and fiction in the story of one man's journey into the heart of the controversy over the attacks in America on Sept. 11, 2001. When 58 year old Alex Monroe visits the site of his wife's death, on the anniversary of the terrorist bombing of a London subway on July 7th 2005, he is drawn immediately to a few American tourists who also lost those close to them during 9/11. He promises to visit Ground Zero and pay his respects. What Alex doesn't know is that he will become entangled in a mess of lies, government conspiracy and in possession of incriminating documents that could prove the United States government's involvement in 9/11, all the while being chased by one determined government secret agent; Nash. The author peppers the novel with citations from reputable newspapers and media outlets, giving the reader a survey of how there were indications of the attacks well before the events actually occurred. A work of thrilling fiction, 9/11: Official Complicity poses a hypothetical world of government involvement in terrorist action that seems frighteningly possible. Was there a 'cover-up' by the United States Government . . . ? . . . You can be the judge of that. http://filmandscriptsproductionsltd.webs.com/apps/videos/?sort_type=1

In his previously written articles and books, Chris Edwards has argued that Teaching should be considered a field that is separate from both the field of Education and from the content area fields. Teaching is a field which synthesizes content and method for classroom application. All of the other major intellectual fields have a canon of works which practitioners can learn from and add to, but Teaching does not. The Connecting-the-Dots in World History: A Teacher’s Literacy-Based Curriculum series changes this by showing how effective a teacher-generated curriculum can be. These books can inspire other teachers to create their own curriculums and inspire a change in the way that the public views teachers and teaching.

The world is in turmoil, with each passing day bringing one more reason for us to wonder: What next? This book may not directly answer this question, but does provide understanding of what, where, and why this war against Daesh (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria - ISIS), and Al-Qaeda is occurring. Dr. Simon Cottee, an academic and senior lecturer in criminology at the University of Kent, England, says many Western leaders don’t seem to know what Daesh’s and Al-Qaeda’s intentions are, or where the groups come from. In December 2014, Major General Michael K. Nagata, special operations commander for the United States in the Middle East, said he had yet to figure out Daesh’s appeal to its followers. He believed it was important to defeat the “idea,” not just overcome the enemy militarily. While a direct remedy of the military strategies to fight this war lies outside the realm of this book, it may assist in understanding these enemies in the context of negating or countering their ideology, especially as it pertains to information that may have flown under the radar for both non-Muslims and Muslims alike.

Pearl Harbor will long stand out in mens minds as an example of the results of basic unpreparedness of a peace loving nation, of highly efficient treacherous surprise attack and of the resulting unification of America into a single tidal wave of purpose to victory. Therefore, all will be interested in this unique narrative by Admiral Wallin. The Navy has long needed a succinct account of the salvage operations at Pearl Harbor that miraculously resurrected what appeared to be a forever shattered fleet. Admiral Wallin agreed to undertake the job. He was exactly the right man for it _ in talent, in perception, and in experience. He had served intimately with Admiral Nimitz and with Admiral Halsey in the South Pacific, has commanded three different Navy Yards, and was a highly successful Chief of the Bureau of Ships. On 7 December 1941 the then Captain Wallin was serving at Pearl Harbor. He witnessed the events of that shattering and unifying "Day of Infamy." His mind began to race at high speeds at once on the problems and means of getting the broken fleet back into service for its giant task. Unless the United States regained control of the sea, even greater disaster loomed. Without victory at sea, tyranny soon would surely rule all Asia and Europe. In a matter of time it would surely rule the Americas. Captain Wallin salvaged most of the broken Pearl Harbor fleet that went on to figure prominently in the United States Navys victory. So the account he masterfully tells covers what he masterfully accomplished. The United States owes him an unpayable debt for this high service among many others in his long career.
