Synopsis Advances in the Interplay Between Quantum and Gravity Physics by : Peter G. Bergmann

In this XVII Course of the International School of Cosmology and Gravitation devoted to "ADVANCES IN THE INTERPLAY BETWEEN QUANTUM AND GRAVITY PHYSICS" we have considered different aspects of the influence of gravity on quantum systems. In order to achieve this aim, in many lectures, seminars and discussions we have strengthened the interplay between gravity and quantum systems starting from the situation in the early universe based on astrophysical observations, up to the earthly based experiments with atom interferometry for probing the structure of space-time. Thus we have had timely lectures on the quantum field and horizon of a black hole including reviews of the problem of black holes thermodynamics and entropy, quantum information, quantum black holes, quantum evaporation and Hawking radiation, recent advances in stockastic gravity. We have also discussed quantum fluctuations in inflationary universe, quantum effects and reheating after inflation, and superplanckian energies in Hawking radiation. In this regard the subject of spinors in purely affine space-time and Dirac matter according to Weyl in the generalized theory of gravitation were developed . The dualism between space-time and matter has been deeply analyzed in order to see why, for general relativity, this is an obstacle for quantization of the theory. Also canonical Gravity and Mach's principle, torsion and curvature as commutator for Quantum Gravity and Dirac Geometry of real space-time were analysed, together with the problem of 5-Dimensional Projective Unified Field theory and Multidimensional Gravity and Cosmology.

Synopsis Gravitation & Astrophysics, 4th Intl Workshop by : Jong-ping Hsu

It is the tradition of this series of workshops that theorists and experimentalists sharing common interests discuss a variety of issues relevant to promoting the quest to unify microscopic physics and gravitation. This proceedings volume embodies that tradition. It included current hot topics such as superconducting accelerometers, low-temperature-long-distance telescopes for gravitational waves, gravitational experiment with high-precision torsion pendulums and modern high-technology, physics of neutron stars, the theory of accretion disc, Ashtekhar's theory, physics of wormholes, and black holes and entropy.

Synopsis Bounds on the Effective Theory of Gravity in Models of Particle Physics and Cosmology by : Michael Atkins

The effective theory of quantum gravity coupled to models of particle physics is being probed by cutting edge experiments in both high energy physics (searches for extra dimensions) and cosmology (testing models of inflation). This thesis derives new bounds that may be placed on these models both theoretically and experimentally. In models of extra dimensions, the internal consistency of the theories at high energies are investigated via perturbative unitarity bounds. Similarly it is shown that recent models of Higgs inflation suffer from a breakdown of perturbative unitarity during the inflationary period. In addition, the thesis uses the latest LHC data to derive the first ever experimental bound on the size of the Higgs boson's non-minimal coupling to gravity.

Synopsis Beyond the Desert 2003 by : Hans-Volker Klapdor-Kleingrothaus

The Fourth International Conference on Particle Physics Beyond the Standard Model (BEYOND THE DESERT '03 - Accelerator, Non-accelerator and Space Approaches) was held during June 9-14, 2003 at Castle Ringberg, Tegernsee, Germany. Traditionally the Scientific Program of the BEYOND conferences, which we started in 1997, covers most of the prominent topics of modern par ticle physics and astrophysics (see CERN Courier November 1997, pp. 16-18, and March 2003, pp. 29-30). At this conference one of the topics on which we put major emphasis were new theoretical developments in extensions of the Stan dard Model by Supergravity - which had its twentieth birthday in this year -, by Superstrings and by Extra Dimensions. Two of the 'inventors' of the first superspace formulation of supergravity - Pran Nath and Richard Arnowit- were participants at this meeting. These topics were discussed by Pran Nath (Boston), Dick Arnowitt (Texas A&M) - who concentrated on the connection to dark matter and g-2 of the muon -, A. E. Faraggi (Oxford, UK), R. E. Allen (Texas A&M) and A. Kobakhidse (Helsinki Univ. ). Fundamental symmetries, including CP violation beyond the Standard Mo del, a possible time variation of the QCD scale, and the status of preons, were dis cussed by Peter Herczeg (Los Alamos), M. N. Rebelo (Lisboa, Portugal), R. Leh nert (Algarve Univ., Portugal), Harald Fritzsch (Munich) and S. Fredriksson (Lulea Univ., Sweden)."
