This is a travelogue by Col. Albert S. Evans describing his journey through Mexico in the late 1860s. Evans was part of a group of American dignitaries invited by the Mexican government to celebrate the opening of a new railroad connecting Mexico City with the port of Veracruz. Evans takes the reader on a tour of Mexico's tropical regions, describing the natural beauty, the people, and the customs he encounters along the way.
