Synopsis Duckworth, the Difficult Child by : Michael Sussman

Duckworth’s parents think he is a difficult child, so when a snake slides right up and swallows him whole, his parents don’t believe him! What’s poor Duckworth to do? Duckworth is a difficult child. At least that’s what his parents think. So when Duckworth tries to explain that a gigantic snake slithered out of his closet, his parents insist it’s all in his head—he is far too old to be imagining such nonsense. (And will he please do his chores?) But even when the cobra slides right up and swallows Duckworth whole, his parents remain unconvinced! (Where did he find that snake costume, and will he please put it away?) What’s poor Duckworth to do when his parents just won’t listen? With nods to the deliciously dark humor of Edward Gorey, Florence Parry Heide, and Jon Klassen, Michael Sussman and Júlia Sardà empathize with children everywhere who must find ways to deal with their difficult parents.

Synopsis Otto by : Eckhard Marthen

Otto is the entertaining and humorous story that spans one man's life from childhood in Germany to adulthood in Australia. Named by his grandfather (referred to as "Opa" in German), Otto conjures up a great deal of trouble and chaos along his journey. Otto's early days seem to be made in heaven--as soon as he is able to talk and walk, his mischievous behavior is both applauded and protected by his grandfather, Opa. Otto's childhood antics include skipping school and lazily relieving himself in a gap between the wall and the bed--instead of going to the toilet. His parents become so frustrated with his behavior that they consider giving him up for adoption, but Opa continues to see only the good in his beloved grandson. It seems Otto could even get away with murder. Will Otto ever be able to take responsibility for his actions, or will his grandfather's loyalty to his grandson stand in the way? Otto's antics will surprise, amuse, and delight you as you follow his never-ending quest to find the greener pasture on the other side of the fence.

Synopsis The Oklahoma Cowboy Band by : Carla Chlouber

The Oklahoma Cowboy Band was the first western string band in the nation to broadcast over the radio and appear on vaudeville, drawing large audiences throughout the Midwest and Northeast. The band began in Ripley as Billy McGinty's Cowboy Band and first played over radio station KFRU in Bristow in May 1925. Billy McGinty was a Rough Rider with Theodore Roosevelt and performed in Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. The public responded to the broadcast of his band with a steady stream of telegrams, telephone calls, and letters asking for more of that old-time cowboy music. Soon Otto Gray and his wife, Mommie, of Stillwater joined the band, with both performing rope tricks, Mommie singing sad songs, and their son, Owen, performing comedy routines as "the Uke Buster." Renamed Otto Gray and His Oklahoma Cowboys, the band traveled for a decade to such cities as St. Louis, Chicago, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, and Syracuse. Its custom-built Cadillacs drew crowds wherever the band went. By the early 1930s, other acts were copying the band's cowboy themes and songs, and Otto Gray's lawyers threatened legal action. The lawyers met with only limited success, though, and today the cowboy image is firmly established in country music, thanks in large part to the early success of Billy McGinty, Otto Gray, and the Oklahoma Cowboy Band.
