Synopsis Interferogram Analysis For Optical Testing by : Zacarias Malacara
In this day of digitalization, you can work within the technology of optics without having to fully understand the science behind it. However, for those who wish to master the science, rather than merely be its servant, it's essential to learn the nuances, such as those involved with studying fringe patterns produced by optical testing interferometers. When Interferogram Analysis for Optical Testing originally came to print, it filled the need for an authoritative reference on this aspect of fringe analysis. That it was also exceptionally current and highly accessible made its arrival even more relevant. Of course, any book on something as cutting edge as interferogram analysis, no matter how insightful, isn't going to stay relevant forever. The second edition of Interferogram Analysis for Optical Testing is designed to meet the needs of all those involved or wanting to become involved in this area of advanced optical engineering. For those new to the science, it provides the necessary fundamentals, including basic computational methods for studying fringe patterns. For those with deeper experience, it fills in the gaps and adds the information necessary to complete and update one's education. Written by the most experienced researchers in optical testing, this text discusses classical and innovative fringe analysis, principles of Fourier theory, digital image filtering, phase detection algorithms, and aspheric wavelength testing. It also explains how to assess wavefront deformation by calculating slope and local average curvature.

Synopsis Optical Transducers and Techniques in Engineering Measurement by : A.R. Luxmoore
Optical measurement techniques have been stimulated in recent years by the advent of lasers and also by modern electro-optical devices. Despite the considerable research and developments in this field, these techniques are not widely appreciated by engineers, who are often unaware of their versatility. This book provides a single comprehensive source giving the basic science and technology involved in the implementation of these latest methods, for use by industrial and research engineers, in the solution of measurement problems and the design of measurement systems. The book covers the most recent and useful innovations and emphasises applications to practical problems. The emphasis in each chapter has been placed on the transducer aspect, i.e. on the instrumentation necessary to perform specific tasks, so that all the necessary components-basic theory, practical details and devices, application to actual problems· are included, as well as information concerning probable sensitivity, accuracy, etc. Simple explanations of complex physical phenomena have been used instead of rigorous treatments, the latter usually being available from the references associated with each chapter. Engineers and applied scientists are often faced with the measurement of a wide range of parameters, e.g. dimension, displacement, strain, force, pressure, torque, fluid flow, fluid level, time dependent effects, etc., and optical methods may seem inappropriate at first glance, but all those mentioned are capable of evaluation using optics and most physical parameters are susceptible to this type of measurement.

Synopsis Progress in Optics by :
Volume XXVIII contains five review articles covering the following areas - digital holography, a field that has found useful applications in connection with data processing and data storage, for 3-d displays and in providing new types of optical components, for example, holographic gratings; - basic investigations concerned with new technologies that may lead to better optical communication systems and improved limits of measurement than are expected from the traditional interpretation of quantum-mechanical measurement theory; - a review of our current understanding of quantum coherence properties of stimulated Raman scattering; - an account of techniques developed in recent years in the field of interferometry, for improvements of high precision measurements; - the fascinating phenomenon of quantum jumps, which were introduced in the theory of atomic spectra by Niels Bohr in 1913.
