Synopsis Ghost Plane by : Stephen Grey

For the first time, Stephen Grey tells the inside story of international prisons sanctioned by the U.S. Government and used by the CIA to hold and torture people suspected of terrorism. Using contacts deep inside the U.S. Government, Grey reveals how deeply the Bush administration is involved in the program and questions the truth of statements made by Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice. He also shines a spotlight on the heads of European nations who turned a blind eye to the program when it showed up in their back yards. Grey takes an unflinching look at a horrendous practice that scorns Geneva Convention rules and is powered by corruption at the highest levels of governments worldwide. Through his unprecedented access to CIA flight records and dozens of sources at the senior levels of the current administration, Grey has produced a story of flight plans, extreme torture, and the clash of religions and governmental posturing that goes on today. Ghost Plane tells the stories of individuals abducted at airports around the world and transported for interrogation and torture on a fleet of leased planes manned by CIA operatives. Grey paints a disburing ethical picture of the war on terror and lays the responsibility for abduction and torutre at the doorstep of Washington, D.C.

Synopsis Nineteen Down by : Stephen Yoham

Secret Service Agent H. Hunter Mahoy uncovers a plot by three foreign governments to eliminate officials in the line of succession to the US presidency. Even though security is increased and other measures are taken, numerous statesmen are killed. Others are gravely wounded. Air Force One also comes under attack. President James Nelson Weber and Hunter Mahoy access an escape capsule shortly before the aircraft explodes at twenty thousand feet. The fiery debris rains down to the desert floor below--just inside a remote, well-guarded bombing range in south-central Nevada. Weber and Hunter land safely about two hundred miles northwest of the crash site near the Sierra Nevada Mountains but are pursued almost immediately by two all-black unmarked helicopters. Hunter shoots one down with his semiautomatic pistol, thereby eliminating half their problem. They take refuge from the bone-chilling cold and the rest of the bad guys by hiding in a cave close to the California border. Unfortunately, the second chopper drops a couple of grenades into the snowbank high above them to start an avalanche. In mere seconds, the cave's entrance is buried under tons of snow and ice. The Secret Service and the FBI work together to mislead news organizations and the public about Air Force One's crash. Now a desperate search is on to find President Weber alive! The American people--and more importantly, enemies of the United States--must not learn that no one else is available to legally take control of running the country.

Synopsis Extraordinary Rendition by : Elspeth Guild

The US led programme of extraordinary rendition created profound challenges for the international system of human rights protection and rule of law. This book examines the efforts of authorities in Europe and the US to re-establish rule of law and respect for human rights through the investigation of the program and its outcomes. The contributions to this volume examine the supranational and national inquiries into the US CIA-led extraordinary rendition and secret detention programme in Europe. The book takes as a starting point two recent and far-reaching developments in delivering accountability and establishing the truth: First, the publication of the executive summary of the US Senate Intelligence Committee (Feinstein) Report, and second, various European Court of Human Rights judgments regarding the complicity of several state parties and the incompatibility of those actions with the European Convention of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms (ECHR). The collective volume provides the first stock-taking review of the state of affairs in the quest for accountability, and identifies significant obstacles in going even further -- as international law demands. It will be vital reading for students and scholars in a wide range of areas, including international relations, international law, public policy and counter-terrorism studies.

Synopsis Deadly Contradictions by : Stephen P. Reyna

As US imperialism continues to dictate foreign policy, Deadly Contradictions is a compelling account of the American empire. Stephen P. Reyna argues that contemporary forms of violence exercised by American elites in the colonies, client state, and regions of interest have deferred imperial problems, but not without raising their own set of deadly contradictions. This book can be read many ways: as a polemic against geopolitics, as a classic social anthropological text, or as a seminal analysis of twenty-four US global wars during the Cold War and post-Cold War eras.
