Synopsis Numerical Methods for Controlled Stochastic Delay Systems by : Harold Kushner

The Markov chain approximation methods are widely used for the numerical solution of nonlinear stochastic control problems in continuous time. This book extends the methods to stochastic systems with delays. The book is the first on the subject and will be of great interest to all those who work with stochastic delay equations and whose main interest is either in the use of the algorithms or in the mathematics. An excellent resource for graduate students, researchers, and practitioners, the work may be used as a graduate-level textbook for a special topics course or seminar on numerical methods in stochastic control.

Synopsis Stability, Control, and Computation for Time-Delay Systems by : Wim Michiels

Time delays are important components of many systems in, for instance, engineering, physics, economics, and the life sciences, because the transfer of material, energy, and information is usually not instantaneous. Time delays may appear as computation and communication lags, they model transport phenomena and heredity, and they arise as feedback delays in control loops. This monograph addresses the problem of stability analysis, stabilization, and robust fixed-order control of dynamical systems subject to delays, including both retarded- and neutral-type systems. Within the eigenvalue-based framework, an overall solution is given to the stability analysis, stabilization, and robust control design problem, using both analytical methods and numerical algorithms and applicable to a broad class of linear time-delay systems.? In this revised edition, the authors make the leap from stabilization to the design of robust and optimal controllers and from retarded-type to neutral-type delay systems, thus enlarging the scope of the book within control; include new, state-of-the-art material on numerical methods and algorithms to broaden the book?s focus and to reach additional research communities, in particular numerical linear algebra and numerical optimization; and increase the number and range of applications to better illustrate the effectiveness and generality of their approach.?

Synopsis Information Computing and Applications, Part II by : Rongbo Zhu

This volume contains the proceedings of the International Conference on Inf- mation Computing and Applications (ICICA 2010), which was held in Tangshan, China, October 15-18, 2010. As future-generation information technology, information computing and applications become specialized, information computing and applications - cluding hardware, software, communications and networks are growing with ever-increasing scale and heterogeneity and becoming overly complex. The c- plexity is getting more critical along with the growing applications. To cope with the growing and computing complexity, information computing and applications focus on intelligent, selfmanageable, scalable computing systems and applications to the maximum extent possible without human intervention or guidance. With the rapid development of information science and technology, infor- tion computing has become the third approach of science research. Information computing and applications is the ?eld of study concerned with constructing - telligent computing, mathematical models, numerical solution techniques and using computers to analyze and solve natural scienti?c, social scienti?c and engineering problems. In practical use, it is typically the application of c- puter simulation, intelligent computing, internet computing, pervasive comp- ing, scalable computing, trusted computing, autonomy-oriented computing, evolutionary computing, mobile computing, computational statistics, engine- ing computing, multimedia networking and computing, applications and other forms of computation problems in various scienti?c disciplines and engine- ing. Information computing and applications is an important underpinning for techniques used in information and computational science and there are many unresolved problems that address worth studying.

Synopsis Time Delay Systems: Methods, Applications and New Trends by : Rifat Sipahi

This volume is concerned with the control and dynamics of time delay systems; a research field with at least six-decade long history that has been very active especially in the past two decades. In parallel to the new challenges emerging from engineering, physics, mathematics, and economics, the volume covers several new directions including topology induced stability, large-scale interconnected systems, roles of networks in stability, and new trends in predictor-based control and consensus dynamics. The associated applications/problems are described by highly complex models, and require solving inverse problems as well as the development of new theories, mathematical tools, numerically-tractable algorithms for real-time control. The volume, which is targeted to present these developments in this rapidly evolving field, captures a careful selection of the most recent papers contributed by experts and collected under five parts: (i) Methodology: From Retarded to Neutral Continuous Delay Models, (ii) Systems, Signals and Applications, (iii): Numerical Methods, (iv) Predictor-based Control and Compensation, and (v) Networked Control Systems and Multi-agent Systems.

Non-linear stochastic systems are at the center of many engineering disciplines and progress in theoretical research had led to a better understanding of non-linear phenomena. This book provides information on new fundamental results and their applications which are beginning to appear across the entire spectrum of mechanics. The outstanding points of these proceedings are Coherent compendium of the current state of modelling and analysis of non-linear stochastic systems from engineering, applied mathematics and physics point of view. Subject areas include: Multiscale phenomena, stability and bifurcations, control and estimation, computational methods and modelling. For the Engineering and Physics communities, this book will provide first-hand information on recent mathematical developments. The applied mathematics community will benefit from the modelling and information on various possible applications.

Synopsis Systems with Delays by : A. V. Kim

The main aim of the book is to present new constructive methods of delay differential equation (DDE) theory and to give readers practical tools for analysis, control design and simulating of linear systems with delays. Referred to as “systems with delays” in this volume, this class of differential equations is also called delay differential equations (DDE), time-delay systems, hereditary systems, and functional differential equations. Delay differential equations are widely used for describing and modeling various processes and systems in different applied problems At present there are effective control and numerical methods and corresponding software for analysis and simulating different classes of ordinary differential equations (ODE) and partial differential equations (PDE). There are many applications for these types of equations, because of this progress, but there are not as many methodologies in systems with delays that are easily applicable for the engineer or applied mathematician. there are no methods of finding solutions in explicit forms, and there is an absence of generally available general-purpose software packages for simulating such systems. Systems with Delays fills this void and provides easily applicable methods for engineers, mathematicians, and scientists to work with delay differential equations in their operations and research.
