Synopsis Numbers Applied, Vol. 1 by : Andrew Jackson Rickoff
Excerpt from Numbers Applied, Vol. 1: A Complete Arithmetic The book 1s intended to be put into the hands of the learner as soon as he has completed a course in primary a1 1thmet1e but it would be well'for him to begin the study of it with the first chapter, that he may get a botte technical knowledge of the fundamental mics and their relations to each other, and that he may become rapid and reliable. In computations invoicing integers before he takes up the more complicated subject of fractions. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Synopsis Fibonacci and Lucas Numbers with Applications by : Thomas Koshy
The first comprehensive survey of mathematics' most fascinatingnumber sequences Fibonacci and Lucas numbers have intrigued amateur and professionalmathematicians for centuries. This volume represents the firstattempt to compile a definitive history and authoritative analysisof these famous integer sequences, complete with a wealth ofexciting applications, enlightening examples, and fun exercisesthat offer numerous opportunities for exploration andexperimentation. The author has assembled a myriad of fascinating properties of bothFibonacci and Lucas numbers-as developed by a wide range ofsources-and catalogued their applications in a multitude of widelyvaried disciplines such as art, stock market investing, engineering, and neurophysiology. Most of the engaging anddelightful material here is easily accessible to college and evenhigh school students, though advanced material is included tochallenge more sophisticated Fibonacci enthusiasts. A historicalsurvey of the development of Fibonacci and Lucas numbers, biographical sketches of intriguing personalities involved indeveloping the subject, and illustrative examples round out thisthorough and amusing survey. Most chapters conclude with numericand theoretical exercises that do not rely on long and tediousproofs of theorems. Highlights include: * Balanced blend of theory and real-world applications * Excellent reference material for student reports andprojects * User-friendly, informal, and entertaining writing style * Historical interjections and short biographies that add a richerperspective to the topic * Reference sections providing important symbols, problemsolutions, and fundamental properties from the theory of numbersand matrices Fibonacci and Lucas Numbers with Applications providesmathematicians with a wealth of reference material in oneconvenient volume and presents an in-depth and entertainingresource for enthusiasts at every level and from any background.

Synopsis Foundations of Applied Mathematics, Volume I by : Jeffrey Humpherys
This book provides the essential foundations of both linear and nonlinear analysis necessary for understanding and working in twenty-first century applied and computational mathematics. In addition to the standard topics, this text includes several key concepts of modern applied mathematical analysis that should be, but are not typically, included in advanced undergraduate and beginning graduate mathematics curricula. This material is the introductory foundation upon which algorithm analysis, optimization, probability, statistics, differential equations, machine learning, and control theory are built. When used in concert with the free supplemental lab materials, this text teaches students both the theory and the computational practice of modern mathematical analysis. Foundations of Applied Mathematics, Volume 1: Mathematical Analysis includes several key topics not usually treated in courses at this level, such as uniform contraction mappings, the continuous linear extension theorem, Daniell?Lebesgue integration, resolvents, spectral resolution theory, and pseudospectra. Ideas are developed in a mathematically rigorous way and students are provided with powerful tools and beautiful ideas that yield a number of nice proofs, all of which contribute to a deep understanding of advanced analysis and linear algebra. Carefully thought out exercises and examples are built on each other to reinforce and retain concepts and ideas and to achieve greater depth. Associated lab materials are available that expose students to applications and numerical computation and reinforce the theoretical ideas taught in the text. The text and labs combine to make students technically proficient and to answer the age-old question, "When am I going to use this?

Synopsis Freedom in Machinery: Volume 1, Introducing Screw Theory by : Jack Phillips
Does a machine run well by virtue of its accuracies, or its freedoms? This work presents an exciting, diagrammatic display of the hidden geometry of freedom and constraint. It bolsters the imaginative design of robots, but applies across all fields of machinery. The figures and their captions comprise alone a self-standing story, and this connects effectively with the rigorously argued text. The seamless combination of the two volumes (1984, 1990) renders the internal cross-referencing (forward and backward within the volumes) easier to look up. The appearance of this paperback is a clear testament to the work's ongoing readership. The term screw theory occurs throughout. This relates (after Ball) to the book's philosophy; and one might equally mention kinetostatics (after Federhofer). An all-pervading, counter-intuitive fact accordingly presents itself: while, analogously, angular velocity relates to force, linear velocity relates to couple. A direct consequence of Freedom in Machinery is a more recent book by the same author. Specifically titled General Spatial Involute Gearing and published in Germany (2003), it exemplifies the many ways in which Freedom in Machinery clarifies the enigmatic field of spatial mechanism. That field continuously expands with the current, continuous thrust of ordinary engineering practice.

Synopsis Guide to the Library of Congress Classification by : Lois Mai Chan
Like earlier editions, this thoroughly updated sixth edition of the classic textbook provides readers with a basic understanding of the Library of Congress Classification system and its applications. The Library of Congress Classification system is used in academic, legal, medical, and research libraries throughout North America as well as worldwide; accordingly, catalogers and librarians in these settings all need to be able to use it. The established gold standard text for Library of Congress Classification (LCC), the sixth edition of Guide to the Library of Congress Classification updates and complements the classic textbook's coverage of cataloging in academic and research libraries. Clear and easy to understand, the text describes the reasoning behind assigning subject headings and subheadings, including use of tables; explains the principles, structure, and format of LCC; details notation, tables, assigning class numbers, and individual classes; and covers classification of special types of library materials. The last chapter of this perennially useful resource addresses the potential role of classification in libraries of the future.

Synopsis Fuzzy Dual Numbers by : Felix Mora-Camino
This is the first book focusing exclusively on fuzzy dual numbers. In addition to offering a concise guide to their properties, operations and applications, it discusses some of their advantages with regard to classical fuzzy numbers, and describes the most important operations together with a set of interesting applications in e.g. optimization, decision-making and system design. The book provides students, researchers and professionals the necessary theoretical background to apply this particular subset of fuzzy numbers to decision-making problems involving uncertainty. Further, it shows how to solve selected engineering and management problems and includes detailed numerical examples.
