Synopsis The Other End of the Spear by : John J. Mcgrath

This book looks at several troop categories based on primary function and analyzes the ratio between these categories to develop a general historical ratio. This ratio is called the Tooth-to-Tail Ratio. McGrath's study finds that this ratio, among types of deployed US forces, has steadily declined since World War II, just as the nature of warfare itself has changed. At the same time, the percentage of deployed forces devoted to logistics functions and to base and life support functions have increased, especially with the advent of the large-scale of use of civilian contractors. This work provides a unique analysis of the size and composition of military forces as found in historical patterns. Extensively illustrated with charts, diagrams, and tables. Available now to FDA-regulated organizations, this manual allows facility managers to look at their operation's regulatory compliance through the eyes of the government. Because this is the primary reference manual used by FDA personnel to conduct field investigation activities, you can feel confident you are preparing appropriate planning or action. This manual includes revised instructions regarding the release of information and covers FDA's policies and expectations on a comprehensive range of topics: FDA's authority to enter and inspect, inspection notification, detailed inspection procedures, recall monitoring, inspecting import procedures, computerized data requests, federal/state inspection relationships, discussions with management regarding privileged information, seizure and prosecution, HACCP, bioengineered food, dietary supplements, cosmetics, bioterrorism, and product disposition. The manual also includes a directory of Office of Regulatory Affairs offices and divisions.

Synopsis Rangers by : Michael Julius King

This Leavenworth Paper is a critical reconstruction of World War II Ranger operations conducted at or near Djebel el Ank, Tunisia; Porto Empedocle, Sicily; Cisterna, Italy; Zerf, Germany; and Cabanatuan in the Philippines. It is not intended to be a comprehensive account of World War II Ranger operations, for such a study would have to include numerous minor actions that are too poorly documented to be studied to advantage. It is, however, representative for it examines several types of operations conducted against the troops of three enemy nations in a variety of physical and tactical environments. As such, it draws a wide range of lessons useful to combat leaders who may have to conduct such operations or be on guard against them in the future. Many factors determined the outcomes of the operations featured in this Leavenworth Paper, and of these there are four that are important enough to merit special emphasis. These are surprise, the quality of opposing forces, the success of friendly forces with which the Rangers were cooperating, and popular support.
