Synopsis Comparative Ocean Governance by : Robin Kundis Craig
Comparative Ocean Governance examines the world's attempts to improve ocean governance through place-based management—marine protected areas, ocean zoning, marine spatial planning—and evaluates this growing trend in light of the advent of climate change and its impacts on the seas. This monograph opens with an explanation of the economics of the oceans and their value to the global environment and the earth's population, the long-term stressors that have impacted oceans, and the new threats to ocean sustainability that climate change poses. It then examines the international framework for ocean management and coastal nations' increasing adoption of place-based governance regimes. The final section explores how these place-based management regimes intersect with climate change adaptation efforts, either accidentally or intentionally. It then offers suggestions for making place-based marine management even more flexible and responsive for the future. Environmental law scholars, legislators and policymakers, marine scientists, and all those concerned for the welfare of the world's oceans will find this book of great value.

Synopsis NOAA Strategic Plan for Deep-Sea Coral and Sponge Ecosystems by : Commerce Dept., NOAA, Coral Reef Conservation Program
NOAA Technical Memorandum CRCP 11. Identifies goals, objectives, and approaches to guide NOAA's research, management, and international cooperation activities on deep-sea coral and sponge ecosystems for fiscal years 2010 through 2019. Integrates research and conservation needs and is intended to be a flexible, evolving document that allows NOAA and its partners to address new management challenges and priorities as appropriate. The primary goal of this Strategic Plan is to improve the understanding, conservation, and management of deep-sea coral and sponge ecosystems.

Synopsis Coral Reef Conservation Program Ocean Acidification Science Plan, Fiscal Years 2012 - 2016 by : Coral Reef Conservation Program (U.S.)
"Changes in ocean chemistry in response to rising levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide, termed ocean acidification (OA), has emerged as a topic of considerable concern to scientist, policy makers, and resource managers. Over the next century changes in carbon dioxide could impart significant, albeit poorly understood, impacts to marine resources. The NOAA Coral Reef Conservation Program (CRCP) Ocean Acidification Science Plan is intended to guide NOAA funded coral reef ecosystem OA research for 2012 - 2016, including research conducted through extramural partners, grants and contracts. The plan covers all shallow coral reef ecosystems under the jurisdiction of the United States (U.S.) and Pacific Freely Associated States (PFAS), and outlines national research needed to address the many management challenges for reducing threats, reversing declines and promoting the resilience of coral reef ecosystems. The priority areas detailed in the plan are responsive to numerous legislative requirements including the Federal Ocean Acidification Research and Monitoring Act of 2009 (Public Law 111-11) and the National Ocean Policy Executive Order (July 2010), and align with broader NOAA strategic documents including the NOAA Ocean and Great Lakes Acidification Research Plan and the NOAA Next Generation Strategic Plan"--Executive summary.
