Stevens by the Board of Managers of the Ladies' Seamens' Friend Society of the Port of San Francisco on September 20, 1876, for her role in persuading Congress to transfer ownership of federally owned land and hospital building to the city of San Francisco for the purpose of founding a boarding home for sailors.
