This volume brings together international experts in diverse areas of physics to discuss recent progress in the experimental and theoretical study of neutrino oscillations.Readers are brought up to date with the latest developments in important neutrino experiments, and the associated progress in theory is summarized. The prestigious Identification of Dark Matter workshop series was initiated to assess the status of work that attempts to identify the constitution of dark matter. In particular, it aims to review the success of current methods that are used in the search for dark matter, as well as the new techniques that are likely to improve prospects for detecting possible dark matter candidates in the future. In the 5th International Workshop, special emphasis was placed on the recent results obtained in experiments searching for baryonic and non-baryonic dark matter. The aim of this workshop was to put together the efforts from various fields necessary for understanding neutrino oscillations in detail, from both experimental and theoretical points of view. One of the main experimental issues was to understand the absolute flux of both the atmospheric and the solar neutrinos in order to obtain detailed parameter information on neutrino oscillations.The proceedings contain many discussions on phenomenology and theories about neutrino mass and oscillations. The topics include: solar neutrino oscillations; neutrino mixing and the neutrino mass matrices; the origin of the neutrino masses; long baseline neutrino oscillation experiments; KamLAND and low energy neutrino measurements. Related subjects such as μ-eγ experiments and proton decay are also discussed.

The discovery of neutrino oscillations in 1998 initiated efforts to form a group to work on the detailed study of the phenomenon; this study is now supported by a grant-in-aid in the specific field of neutrinos from the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports. The aim of this working group is to put together the efforts from various fields necessary for understanding neutrino oscillations in detail from both the experimental and the theoretical point of view. The 4th International Workshop on Neutrino Oscillations and Their Origin was held to discuss recent progress in both experimental and theoretical study.

This volume is the latest in a prominent biannual series of scientific meetings on the exciting research topics of dark matter and, more recently, of dark energy. It contains a state-of-the-art update on detection efforts by experimental groups around the world trying to pin down exotic new forms of matter under the names of axions, neutralinos, wimps, primordial black holes, q balls, sterile neutrinos, as well as a tantalizing new form of dark energy component called phantom energy and quintessence. In international workshops on “New Worlds in Astroparticle Physics” held biannually, astronomers, astrophysicists and particle physicists discuss recent developments in the exciting and rapidly developing field of Astroparticle Physics. Similar to previous workshops, this 5th international workshop introduced experimental, observational and theoretical subjects through review lectures. This was followed by shorter contributions on the recent developments in Astroparticle Physics. This workshop covered an array of subjects like cosmic rays, gravitational waves, space radiation, neutrino physics, cosmological parameters, black holes, dark matter and dark energy.
