Synopsis Parkinson's Disease and Me by : Patricia Lightner

Parkinson's Disease and Me: Walking the Path 2nd Edition was originally published in 2003. Many changes have occurred since then, and I have changed as a person and as a writer. I revised this book and added five new chapters in June 2012. I also made changes/additions to the original book. The book takes you on my journey before I was diagnosed with young onset Parkinson's disease almost twenty years ago. It was obvious something was wrong, but Parkinson's disease? That was not on anyone's radar screen. The book continues with my diagnosis and adjustment (actually, at first it was nonadjustment). I have found Parkinson's disease (PD) does not make one immune to the vagaries of life. A personal tragedy is included in the book. I found it could not be left out because of the profound manner in which it affected me. However, I stick to my belief of one's right to privacy and only give the pertinent points. Readers may feel some of the material in this book is dated. However, that material is best categorized as historical. We cannot successfully move forward unless we know and learn from where we have been.

Synopsis Parkinson's: Life Lessons Five Years into the Journey by : Gerry Hill

At age forty-eight, my life changed dramatically when I received my diagnosis of early onset Parkinson's disease. How could this be possible? I'm not an old man! This diagnosis has placed me at the starting line of a difficult journey. Looking back at the first five years of my Parkinson's life, I can see a bit more clearly now how this all came together. I have learned about the disease, but I have also, more importantly, learned from the disease. This book is my story of how my diagnosis was reached and how I started on my Parkinson's journey. I have learned many lessons along the way, and I have passed along my most important discoveries in this book. It is my hope that those who read it will get a better perspective of the daily life of a Parkinson's patient as well as see that successes can be reached along the way. Enjoy the journey!

Synopsis Thames Path Walk by : Michael Parkinson

I walked the Thames Path in 30 sections over three years. Every section was a single day outing starting and finishing from my home near Nottingham. It was an enjoyable experience except ... perhaps I should have heeded the Bull in Field sign near Cricklade.

Synopsis Mine's Parkinson's, What's Yours? by : Charles E Mickles, Jr

How do you face the unexpected? What do you do when life yanks the rug out from under you again and again and again? When tragedy strikes, where do you turn? How do you keep going and not give up when all hope seems lost? This last year has been "Hell." Nothing could prepare us for what was coming. I never expected, and never wanted to hear the four little words that turned our lives upside down. "You have Parkinson's Disease." Stunned, angry, discouraged, and lost, we had no idea where to even turn. Days seemed so dark, and often, all hope seemed lost. As a young man, and a young family, this was not in the plan. How in the world would we survive and face this devastating diagnosis? So many questions; so many things to consider. What would we do? This path would be long, and it would envelope the rest of my life.Yet I am not the only one walking challenging paths. Each of us has a difficult path of our own to follow. On these paths, we can feel very alone, we find few who understand the difficulties, which makes the pain and struggle even more isolating. We all have similar journeys, in my case, Parkinson's Disease is that path. It is a journey filled with pain, sorrow, grief, exhaustion, anger, doubt, and so many other emotional and physical ups and downs. As hard as battling this disease is, it can also, at times, be a journey filled with laughter, faith, love, encouragement, and courage. Whether my battle or yours, we must each choose how to face it, and this is a choice made day by day, taking that next step to see where this path may lead. On this journey (whatever yours might be), each of us need help and encouragement. We need to know that there are others who "get it", who understand. Through our struggles, we have the opportunity to bless and encourage others as they face their own struggles and difficulties. Hope is important, for without it, we cannot go on. Through this journey we are walking, may you find hope and encouragement, and may you be reminded that He will never leave us nor forsake us.We each face a battle, we all had hardships, and we choose how to face them. My battle is Parkinson's, what's yours? What Readers are saying: My life explained. - LisaThis is real life. My life with Parkinson's Disease. As if my heart is being examined and the words of my life are put to the page. - Kim What a description!! My life in someone else's words. Well done for digging deep and giving an honest look at "our" life. - Anonymous It is as if you looked into my life and wrote down my thoughts. Many do not know what my daily battles are like. This would be an excellent representation. - Ki

Synopsis Sharing the Road by : Case J. Boot

It was a student's observation about Dr. Case Boot's small writing on the chalk board that first made him aware of his Parkinson's symptoms. Since being diagnosed, Professor of Linguistics Emeritus at Dordt College Dr. Case Boot has learned to walk the journey of Parkinson's and is now sharing his experiences in his new book, Sharing the Road. "My intent with this book is to help others by sharing the story of God's faithfulness to me, to provide information about Parkinson's and how to live with it positively, and to encourage family and friends and those who have Parkinson's disease. This book is my way of responding to the Lord's call to serve Him and others," said Boot in the book's introduction. The book details the symptoms of the disease and shares several treatment options that are available. Boot also explains some of the unusual behaviors of people with the disease and helps readers think about how they should respond. In addition, Boot is honest about the difficulties of coming to terms with the disease. "Parkinson's is not a death sentence but an invitation and a challenge to a new and unfamiliar lifestyle," he says.
